If you're on one of the millions of people who suffer from food related allergies, you know how difficult eating out can be. Carnivale's Executive Chef Mark Mendez has paired up with Lisa Williams (check out her website which features allergen free recipes) to create a dinner at which you can dine worry-free.
The menu is free of Wheat, Eggs, Soy, Dairy, Fish, Shellfish, Peanuts, Tree Nuts, and Gluten.
Appetizers: Guacamole and Chips, Ropa Vieja (Sweet Plantains, Braised Beef, Spicy Mayo)
Entrees Family Style: Arrachera (Grilled Marinated Skirt Steak, Black Beans and Rice, Sweet Onions, Chimichurri), Pollo (Guatemalan-Style Chicken, Jalapeno-Parsley Mojo, Potatoes, Olives, Green Beans), or Pernil (Rum Glazed Pork Shoulder, Puerto Rican Rice and Beans, Fried Plantains)
Dessert will be provided, as well.
The "Safe & Sound Dinner" is on June 29th. You must reserve your spot; you can do so on Lisa's website or by calling 773-665-0430. Tickets are $50 per person.
Carnivale is located at 702 W. Fulton.

I'm sorry but I suffer from food allergies and this is definitely not an allergen-free meal for many folks I know. It's hard to ever create anything that is an allergen-free meal ever. The folks at Carnivale need to be more specfic.
I know.
Among other things, I am seriously allergic to plantains :)
Hello, llyf,
I believe they intended to cover gluten and then the next 'big 8' allergens: Wheat, Eggs, Soy, Dairy, Fish, Shellfish, Peanuts, Tree Nuts (the meal does not contain these ingredients).
No meal could really be allergen free (and thereby intend to protect all individuals with food allergies) because someone could be allergic to anything, really. I believe that the menu planners are using creative ways to create things, like chips (with the guac), that manage to avoid these Big 8 ingredients.
I am sure that if you visit Lisa's website, she would be happy to answer any questions you have regarding specificity with respect to the Carnivale "Safe and Sound Dinner."
Are food allergy meals something you believe we should cover? Let me know! I'd be happy to explore it some more.
Thanks, llyf,
-L.
