Kid Chefs: Cook-Off for Share Our Strength

By L. Stolpman in Food on Jun 3, 2009 2:40PM

Have an aspiring kid chef (ages 9 - 13) at home? Get him or her to Kendall College this Sunday for the ConAgra Foods and Share Our Strength Healthy Kids Cook-Off. In this Iron-Chef style cooking competition, kids will compete to create both a healthy and tasty meal or snack with a limited list of ingredients. The event is aimed at education children about nutritional information as well as to raise awareness of childhood hunger in America.

Here's why this is important. School is going to be out for the summer and 8 out of the 10 kids who depend on the free school lunch are not going to receive free food during the summer. ConAgra and Share Our Strength have organized this event to get children and adults interested in sustainable solutions to end child hunger.

  • When: Sunday, June 7, from 12 Noon to 5 p.m.
  • Where: Kendall College Chicago, 900 North Branch Street
  • Who: YOU and your KIDS!; MK Executive Chef Erick WIlliams, Chef Michael Kornick, also of MK; Event Co-Chairs Gabrielle Martinez and her fourth grade daughter Sophia; and nearly 100 kids (but only if you make sure to bring yours!)
  • Questions: Contact Anna Batcke, Midwest Field Manager for Share our Strength at abatcke(at)strength(dot)org.

If you have any problems finding out more information, contact L.Stopman and we will do our best to to get you any information you need to make sure you can get your kids to this fun event.
