One of the few summer blockbusters we're genuinely interested in seeing this year is Michael Mann's Public Enemies, starring Johnny Depp as infamous gangster John Dillinger. The movie opens nationwide on July 1.
But if you're in Wisconsin, L.A. or Hobart, Indiana you'll have the chance to see it early. All three places are hosting pre-release screenings of one kind of another. So why not Chicago? After all, according to Reel Chicago the production pumped $25 million into the local economy. It was shot on locations all over town (pun intended), including the Biograph Theater and Lakeview.
Well, no one seems to know. Of course large portions of the movie were filmed elsewhere in the Midwest, but it seems like the kind of flick that cries out for a splashy event at the Chicago Theater, complete with vintage cars and ladies in feather boas.
Oh well. In the meantime we'll just have to watch The Untouchables again ... or maybe go on one of those bus tours.

Stroger Makes Hollywood Play

I don't know what kind of set-up the main stage at the Victory Gardens has now, but it seems like a premier showing at the Biograph would have been a pretty obvious marketing opportunity.
aaahhh...who cares about Johnny Depp?
If you go to this site: http://www.whatadog.net
You'll see the dog in a short video, her name is Toula, who has a role in this movie.
She lives in Kalamazoo, Mich. with her owner/trainer.
can't wait...
i feel like everytime i eat at the Qdoba on Lincoln (which is often), the bus tour comes along and everyone takes pictures of the alley.
I do not live in Chicago, but I agree the Premiere should be there. I guess whoever is promoting the film makes that decision. I can't wait to see the movie. Johnny is awesome.
Should have been filmed in Chicago!!! Then again, I wouldn't be surprised too see clips of New York. Give New York a rest for a while........ long while
Parts of it were filmed in Chicago. I spent a day watching them close down Clark around Illinois or Grand and fill the street with cars from the '20s. It was kind of awesome.
when they were filming on the Northside, they had all the 20's cars parked on our side streets, that was pretty cool to witness while walking around.
