We’ve been hearing for a while now that the CTA is due to receive federal stimulus money for transit projects. But we now have confirmation from U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood that the CTA will get $240 million in grants according to WBBM. The CTA plans to use the money to complete infrastructure repairs and acquire hybrid buses and has said that the federal money will help pay for roughly $7 billion of work needed to bring the system into good working order. That last line is confusing...
I sounds as though you're saying that the $240 million will pay for $7 billion in work needed to bring the system into good repair.I think the key word is "help."
Heh...One has to wonder how much of that 240 mil will actually be applied to actual construction and rehab work. They will need many consultants. May I be the first to suggest we be on the lookout for Daleys recently unemployed nephew popping up in the CTA?

He wouldn't be working for the CTA of course. He would be a consultant. No clear line for a consultant in any budget. It would be perfect. Daley hasn't been sick. Everyone has been sitting around the kitchen table thinking up a new company name for the kid to use.
Right...it will "help" pay for overall repairs that the CTA says will cost $7 billion total to bring the whole system in good working order.
Hopefully that clarifies.
