By now, you've seen them in several spots around town or you've seen them featured on websites like ours. Now, the artist who's created the stencils of former governor Rod Blagojevich is reaching out to you for a little help. The man behind the stencil, Pilsen artist Ray Noland, has begun a fundraiser at kickstarer to help raise money for a future showcase of his works. You can donate any amount from $1 on up and donations of certain increments ($10, $25, etc) will get you things ranging from t-shirts to your own painting. Noland is hoping to raise $3,500 by the end of the month and so far has raised $680 at post time.
As for Noland's hopes for the show:
A 3-day pop-up art gallery of work depicting ex-Governor, now Pop icon Rod Blagojevich aka Blago. Maybe you've seen him jogging or lighting campfires in Chicago. Or maybe you've heard the self-professed 'hard working cowboy' compare himself to Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Run, Blago Run! Show will allow these dreams to come true. Brought to you by CRO + friends. Artists will interpret the classic jogging pose in any medium.
Speaking about the fundraiser to the Tribune (where we first read about it), Noland added, "People get a kick out of the Blago stuff. And I figured, if people really want to see it, they can help make a show happen." So let's make it happen, folks!

Stroger Makes Hollywood Play

So I'm sure that this Blago artist got permission to paint his "art" on all of these buildings and doorways, many of which seem to be private property or at least property which doesn't belong to him. Cause if he hates Blago, then I'm sure he also hates the idea of assuming someting that belongs to someone else is free for him to do with as he sees fit without input.
And it's not even that great of art, at least from my view.
"Make it happen"? No thanks, not for some garden-variety vandal who doesn't even seem that talented, or who seems more interested in his own ego than his work.
Thing about Blago: He's almost his own work of ongoing art, overshadowing most attempts to "capture" him by outsiders, especially in such a bland way that most closely approximates some art kid from high school sketching on the back of his notebook. I guess I'm old fashioned: I expect art to give me some new insight about the world, to see the world, people, my culture, etc in a new way. I've seen this work in numerous places over the past few weeks, and I can't point to any insight I've gained, nor claim that I now see Blago in a new way.
Hell, the painting of Blago that hangs above the bar at the Old Town Ale House is more insightful than this pedestrian crap.
These are funny just as Tina Fey is funny simply quoting Sarah Palin verbatim. They seem to be about exactly what you already know, Blago is an ongoing work of art.
