TMZ story is unsourced, and honestly, those guys always seemed like kind of a crappy rumor rag rather than reputable news, so I wouldn't take only their word.
LA Times is saying that a "high-ranking law enforcement source" says he's in a coma and that the family's gathering.
Sad-making.

So, the big question bow is whether the EPA will offer some sort of special dispensation to bury him, or if they'll just send him to Yucca Mountain.

but, that all aside ... i'm sitting here watching michael jackson videos on MTV and i just can't believe he's dead. he had a lot of freakish/bad things going on at the end, but his music transcends that and will continue to influence people forever. he is both my generation's elvis presley and howard hughes.

I'm just not that surprised that he's dead. I grew up buying his records, I still have the Thriller album (vinyl)... and some old Jackson 5 45's that have survive my many moves, but these past years he was like a walking corpse anyway. He's had one foot in the grave for years now, imo.
He had such a sad, sad childhood but the weirder he got as time went by just made me like him less and less.
I think it's really freaky how his fans look past all of his bizarre behavior, like none of it exists. They're out in great numbers crying and sobbing in public. I've never understood this idolization of public figures to the point where you're in hysterics over someone that you've never even met. I don't care how famous they are.
One thing that that just strikes me as odd is hearing that just a couple of weeks ago he had a complete physical to make sure he was ok to do this tour he was planning and the
results of that physical were 'perfect health'.
And then he dies of cardiac arrest just days after this physical?
Anyway, I wish I could just think of him pre-surgery, because he was just so good looking and seemed so sweet, but that surgery enhanced zombie face and his perverted behavior just won't let me.
No one has mentioned his kids. I hope they come out of this ok. Poor things.

I think their father's death offers them the best possible chance of turning out okay. I haven't heard anything about who will take them, but hopefully now at least they'll be raised by humans.

Honestly, this sounds worse than I mean it, but he hasn't been relevant in years. All the good things we remember him for were AT LEAST 15 years ago. His death will probably help to preserve that legacy in a more positive way.
