As promotions go, "National 40 Oz. Week" at Fifty/50 (2047 W. Division, 773-489-5050) walks the fine line between inspiration and cliched crassness. Thursday's "Old School Hip Hop Night" is right up our alley, with $5 St. Ides forties for sale and the DJs spinning NWA, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and (hopefully) Eric B. & Rakim, The D.O.C., Ice T and Arabian Prince on the clickwheels of steel.
The centerpiece of the week's events is tomorrow's "4 Courses to Freedom 40oz Dinner" at 7 p.m. The $25 dinner will pair a different forty with dishes ranging from cheese fries to baby back ribs with cornbread. It's limited to 50 people and tickets can be purchased here.

Stroger Makes Hollywood Play

hahah. sounds awesome. i remember drinking 40s at the old lakeview broadcasting club - you can't go wrong with a 40.
...or should i say you can go very very wrong with a 40. heh.
Sweet, I'll be showing up in blackface.
You beat me too it, Navin. Can't wait for the photos of people awkwardly trying to throw up signs.
hah. yeah upon review i'm not sure the the ribs and cornbread are exactly culturally sensitive.
Yeah, you can pretty much sense an unannounced theme.
But on the other hand, it's just people drinking beer and eating food, so... no sweat off my nose.
I think the crowd could get ugly if you did. Dozens of hipsters, suddenly face to face with someone with darker skin tone? Diving for their iPhones to chronicle their racially ironic confrontation?
Oh the tweeting, oh the humanity!
I hate that bar.
I went there once only because it was a party with free booze and free food. But I could tell I wouldn't be coming back.
Yeah, that bar is a major douche fest (think college frat kids that graduated and forgot that college was over). But the entire neighborhood's headed that way, so whatever. Really good food though, get it togo.
40s are old-hat; I demand a Strawberry Cisco night!
hah.
Chuck, you'll find this link interesting. Its from the NYT and covers the local Chicago beer scene.

Ari Bendersky interviewed me for that article, although none of my answers were used in the final edits.
Leave it to a Chicagoan to write about it for the Times, instead of them waiting for it to pass, then writing.
When is the Boons Farm week gonna hit?!
