As we head into the holiday weekend, there's a bit of sports news to catch up on.

- If you can't beat 'em, sign 'em. The Chicago Blackhawks signed a pair of former Red Wings players today. The big fish the 'Hawks reeled in was four-time All-Star Marian Hossa for, allegedly, 12-years at $62.4 million. Also signed was center Tomas Kopecky, a two-year, $2.4 million deal.
- The Cubs-White Sox rain-out from June 16th has officially been rescheduled for Thursday, September 3. The game, at Wrigley Field, will start at 1:20 p.m.
- NBA free agency kicked off at midnight last night and so far, no one's offered Ben Gordon a deal, not even the Pistons as had been expected.
- If you still want to vote for your favorite White Sox and Cubs players - may we suggest Jermaine Dye from the Sox and...God...is there any Cub worthy? Derek Lee, we guess? - you have until 10:59 p.m. Chicago time tomorrow night to cast your votes online at MLB.com.

Weekend Diversion: Night Of The Ponies

I would say the only Cub worthy of a trip to St. Louis is Randy Wells, but that won't happen because the bullpen and offense fucked him too many times. It's amazing -- last year, the whole damn team had a reason to go and this year no one does.
Khabi also signed with the Oilers, so he's gone. You've got to hope the Huet pulls his head out of his arse next season and actually plays well, otherwise it really doesn't matter who the 'Hawks sign outside the net.
The only Cub worthy of a trip to St. Louis is Mark DeRosa.
Wells would be a great pick if he hadn't been screwed by the offense.
My best guess is it's Soriano as the Cubs' rep if he doesn't get voted in.
Every team has to have a rep, still, right? That idiotic rule is still in effect?
Soriano will only go if he can be the lead off hitter.
in 12 years it's going to be 2021. wow, that sounds like a long ways away.
We live in the future.
The movie Blade Runner, incidentally, was set in the year 2019.
The more I think about the signing of Hossa, the less it makes sense, especially for the $ amount. The 'Hawks just spent a ton on him, knowing that next year Toews and Kane need to be signed or they become restricted free agents. And with his signing we lost Havlet, who was a key player even with injuries. Bleh!
