Ald. Flores Gets Backing On Olympic Cap

It looks like Ald. Manny Flores (1st) has a bit of company in his bid to cap Olympic spending. Earlier this week, Flores introduced an ordinance to the City Council and so far 10 more aldermen have signed on to back the cap. They are, according to the Tribune:

  • Robert Fioretti (2nd)
  • Leslie Hairston (5th)
  • Freddrenna Lyle (6th)
  • Sandi Jackson (7th)
  • Ricardo Munoz (22nd)
  • Sharon Denise Dixon (24th)
  • Scott Waguespack (32nd)
  • Richard Mell (33rd)
  • Eugene Schulter (47th)
  • Joe Moore (49th)

In addition to the cap, Ald. Flores is also leading a group of aldermen who want a third-party auditor to look at the Chicago 2016 bid cost projections.

Update: Add Willie Cochran (20th) to the list.

Slow week this week, eh? Gothamist had a breaking story of some girl who flipped out on a cop who in turn flipped out himself. Has drawn over 200 comments in over three articles posted about it.

Just sayin'...

When hell freezes over, add Mary Ann Smith to any list comprised of aldermen who dare to deviate from unquestioningly promoting the full agenda of the mayor.

Last week Alderman Mell sent out an email asking for constituent opinions on the Olympics in Chicago. My guess is that the replies were almost wholly against the games. As such he talked to Daley and got a dispensation to vote for this ordinence, while it will not pass it will give some alderman cover against a voter revolt. This is not legislation it is political theater. Enjoy the show.
