Well, shit just got interesting. After yesterday's announcement by Attorney General Lisa Madigan that she won't be running for his office, U.S. Senator Roland Burris has had enough and will not be seeking to keep his seat in 2010, according to a report from the Sun-Times. Burris is expected to detail his decision in a press statement tomorrow.

That's such a shame.
A stone mason just lost some sweet mausoleum work.
can i run?
His work in the Senate is done. He now has another pension and gold-plated benefits for the rest of his life.
Are there limits as to when you qualify for the pension? I've always had a huge problem with elected officials getting retirement pensions for serving in a political office.
I do believe that one has to fulfill a full term to recieve anything. Not that it matters to his lords senator though. He can still keep it on his headstone.
Just got this from the senate.gov site:
"Members of Congress are eligible for a pension at age 62 if they have completed at least five years of service. They are eligible for a pension at age 50 if they have completed 20 years of service, or at any age after completing 25 years of service. The amount of the pension depends on years of service and the average of the highest three years of salary. By law, the starting amount of a member’s retirement annuity may not exceed 80 percent of his or her final salary. As of October 1, 2000, the average annual pension for members of Congress who have retired under CSRS is $52,464, and $46,932 for retirees under FERS-only or both FERS/CS"
so he just got the salary. He won't qualify for the pension.
Just you wait. Roland Burris will be back- as a candidate for President of these United States. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xbVCkV4TmI
