Wilco Still Loves Us, Baby

A little miffed like us that Wilco has so far shunned their hometown on their 2009 tour schedule, which includes promotion of that new LP of theirs? We know they did that amazing five-night stand last year but...that was last year! What about 2009? Well, now we know what is up with 2009. This morning, XRT announced the show which is happening Sunday, October 18. The only thing that caught us off guard a bit was the venue: the UIC Pavilion. Not that they need to play somewhere bigger, but they probably could. Anyway, tickets for the show go on sale this Saturday and will cost $39.50 for reserved and general admission seating. So go those clicking fingers ready.

UIC= bad sound and no booze.

No booze? Count me out.

Don't they sell beer at Windy City Rollers matches? That's at UIC Pavilion.

They sell booze at the Windy City Rollers bouts which happen at the UIC pavilion

Just because it's a college stadium doesn't mean there's no booze. I think the rule is on campus, for NCAA sports, no alcohol.

I still haven't seen a show here. Are the acoustics actually shitty? Like Aragon shitty?

I have to say I'm pretty disappointed that this is what Wilco gives it's hometown...you can say I'm looking a gift horse in the mouth, I don't care. A one-off Sunday night show at the f'ing UIC? That's the best they can do? It screams AFTER THOUGHT. Unless they're planning on some bad-ass New Year's Eve show or something...

FYI- UIC Pavilion has an alcohol license as of January 2009. They sell at all events! This is going to be a great show. $39.50 also not a bad price for all seats.

Oh wow, $39.50 for all seats! I will definetly be there. I was just there for a Chicago Sky game last week and noticed that they were selling beer. Not only do they have portable beer stands, but hawkers that sell it in the seating area. Can't wait to tell my friends about this.

Ok, I'm sold - I recant my statement.

Good news about the liquor license. I've been to a large number of events at UIC, going back to U2 in 84 and have never been able to get a beer there. It's been a few years since I've been there, though.

I'm probably the only person in the world who doesn't see what the big deal is about wilco.

Wilco puts me to sleep.

Then again, anything indie sounding sounds awful to me. A whole lot of mumbled whining over acoustic guitars with bad keyboards making "sound effects".

No soul, no muscle and no guts.

UIC is where bands that can't fill the United Center go to play... I was hoping for a residency across a bunch of small places, Schubas, Double Door, Empty Bottle, maybe even Otto's-stretch it out. Weak sauce Wilco, weak sauce.

and am I the only person who can enjoy a show without booze??? Geez, people, can you stay sober for a couple hours?

Given the hub-bub XRT was making about the announcement I thought it would be at a much better venue. I'll take a pass. I mean they played Pritzker Pavilion, now a dump like UIC Pavilion!? Color me disappointed.

DUDE... have you been to the Pavilion in the last year or so?? it has changed and I think you will be surprised. I was. and how can you do Wilco like that? Show your support it will be a great Concert

Where at UIC do you work Colleen?

Wow, why is everyone coming down on Wilco and the venue? Who cares where they play? Frankly I'm glad their playing at the UIC Pavilion. Its a larger place and yes they sell alcohol now. I was just at the Killers concert in Jan where liquor was served. Oh by the way, the sound was good too. Wilco moving up. I got my tickets!!!
