Can't they just use the "helipad" in Lincoln Park that Obama used yesterday evening?

Am I missing something here? Why on earth would it be a bad idea to put a helipad on top of a children's hospital? Let's just shutter the whole ER too!

The concern is that the helipad would be in the middle of Streeterville, among many tall residential buildings. Given the fact that helicopters are prone to accidents, especially in bad weather and updrafts from the buildings, a crash is deemed too risky. There have been a disturbing number of Air Ambulance crashes in the past -- so much that the FAA grounded them in Illinois for a time last year. Their safety record is worrisome.

Obama did not take the helicopter that awaited him when he landed in Air Force One due to the thunderstorms that were passing through when he arrived. Instead, he drove to his gig in Lincoln Park. So, people do not trust helicopters in bad weather.
