Ald. Schulter Targeting Dangerous Dog Owners

Fed up with owners of dangerous dogs who aren't properly abiding by set rules, Ald. Eugene Schulter (47th) is looking to put down stricter penalties at those who flaunt the current rules. Inspired by an incident in his own ward, Schulter has introduced an ordinance that would ban an offender from owning a dog for five years while multiple offenders could face a lifetime ban within city limits as well as up to six months in jail. I initially figured I’d dislike this, and was pissed because Schulter (my alderman) is the sponsor. However, it’s not the ludicrous ban that was previously proposed, and actually attempts to address problem owners – rather than place blanket blame on certain breeds.

He's my alderman too, unfortunately. Requiring ALL owners of pit bulls to muzzle their dogs on walks is total crap! I know tons of people with really friendly pit bulls or mixed bullies, and those dogs should absolutely NOT be muzzled on walks. How many dog attacks happen while the dog is on a walk, anyway? If he took that stupid provision out, the ordinance would make a lot more sense.
