We're occasionally referred to derisively as "Leftcagoist," a proclamation meant to imply we're not fair and balanced. But we're always thinking of our right-leaning brethren. Need proof? The Cook County Republican Party, in conjunction with the Chicago Republican Party, the Chicago Young Republicans, the Republican National Hispanic Assembly, the Chicago Republican Women's Network, the 21 Club, the Illinois Republican Party and the Republican Jewish Coalition (whew!), is hosting a wild and crazy beach party tonight at Castaways on North Avenue Beach.
Besides getting to play beach blanket bingo with such sexy political luminaries as 10th District Congressman and Senate candidate Mark Kirk and Republican political consultant and gubernatorial candidate Dan Proft, you can also rub elbows with State Party Chairman Andy McKenna.
The fun in the (setting) sun kicks off at 5:30 p.m., and tickets are a very reasonable $30. And what sort of GOP beach party would it be without an open bar, pizza and hot dogs? A no fun beach party, that's what! But don't worry, the ticket price covers drinks and munchies.

If it didn't involve the implied donation to the GOP, I'd walk around with a group of friends in witty and/or ironic left-leaning t-shirts and just bask in the glory.
They wouldn't give a shit about your shirt, and they'd probably help out with a few self-deprecating zingers that'll endorse whatever idea your shirt says.
Is it a formal even or can I leave my white robe at home?
It is amusing to see that some Chicagoist readers think that there are no Republicans in Chicago. And that the Republicans are more likely to be racists.
Lefties, lighten up. Let the GOP have a party once in a while. We Republicans are all around you, passing you on the street every day, and you don't even realize it.
How does it feel to be aligned with a party that legitimizes rather than marginalizes and discredits fringe lunatics? We have actual "news" networks and talking heads doing nothing to back the party line away from crazy. Shepard Smith tries and is paying the price. I'd be quite embarrassed to raise my hand and cast my lot with the GOP of 2009. Even your best boys in Washington and elsewhere are keeping quiet and tarnishing their good names by not rising above the nonsense and making everything a pissing contest or shrewd political calculation. They need to ditch the dead weight or watch the Grand Old Party go the way of the Whigs.
