Sox Drop Angels
The White Sox clinched their series versus the Los Angeles Angels with a 6-2 win on Wednesday. Gavin Floyd was dominant for the Good Guys, allowing one earned run and six hits during his eight innings on the rubber. The Sox also flexed their offensive muscle as Jim Thome went deep twice, plating four Chicago runs, and Paul Konerko added a solo homer in the eighth to fortify the Sox’s advantage. Beyond victory, the long outing by Floyd gave the bullpen a much needed break, as Chicago’s relievers had pitched a total of 12 innings in the previous two contests. The Sox will aim for the sweep of the West’s best team at 1:05 this afternoon.

Reds Roll Cubs
The Cubs failed to close the door on the Cincinnati Reds Wednesday, losing 4-0. A shaky second inning by Rich Harden in an otherwise fine performance gave the Reds a quick 3-0 lead. Cincy starter Justin Lehr took care of the Cubs’ offense, scattering four hits en route to a complete-game shutout. Chicago put a mere two runners in scoring position, both coming with two outs already in the books. The defense didn’t look much sharper, as one Reds’ run scored on an error and the Cubs committed several other below-average plays on the field. Perhaps fatigue was a factor for the North Siders, who get a day off today after 13 consecutive contests. Next up is a four-game series with the Colorado Rockies, which begins Friday at 8:10.
