Where's Rex?

As the Bears hit the field in Bourbonnais to get ready for the upcoming season, all eyes are on their new QB, Jay Cutler. And what ever happened to Rex Grossman, the previous supposed savior at the position for the Bears? He's currently the third string QB for the Houston Texans. Is that where the former Super Bowl passer remains, or can he work himself up and on to the field? Said Grossman, “If they have me at third string, I'm going to be the best third-string quarterback in the league. I'm going to set my goals high. I want to start in this league again.” While that may not happen in 2009, he's hoping this new beginning in Houston will open opportunities for him down the road.

I always thought the Chicago media was much too harsh on Rex. He gets a permanent pass from me. I hope he does well.

Same here, Nicholas. I'm wondering who this year's scapegoat will be.

Rex's main problem was getting himself hurt too early in the season his first 2 years. He was ok, just like Kyle was ok. It would be nice to have a good QB, but we're definately primed to see this year that a good QB doesn't help much without a good wide out.

I heard it said that Rex Grossman was the least-gifted quarterback to ever make it to the Super Bowl.

That makes me respect him even more. Not possessing stellar talent, he used guts, hard work, and determination to make it. Not many quarterbacks can say that they brought their team to the Super Bowl.

He used an insanely talented defense, an offensive line in its prime, and a talented running back to get there.

Fixed it.

Watching the Rex Grossman saga simply proved time and again how fickle the Chicago fanbase can be. He'd have a bad weak, and Chicago would declare him the incarnation of evil, Rosemary's baby all grown up. He'd have a good week, and Chicago would call him the Second Coming ... though of what, I don't know, as it's not like there was ever a first coming for Chicago quarterbacks. Of course, Chicago does the same thing to the Cubs and the Bulls, and they'd do it to the White Sox if the White Sox weren't largely ignored.

But hey, only 39 days until we can start finding a reason to hate Jay Cutler.
