Navy Pier wants to give people the chance to see Chicago from a new angle: a hot air balloon. Perhaps a little friendly competition with the Sears Willis Tower Ledges? The balloon would be tied to the ground and the attraction would be run by New York-based AeroBalloon. According to the Sun-Times:
Up to 14 passengers, plus the operator, would go up on any given ride. Passengers would be required to wear a harness attached to the gondola to prevent them from falling out during the 15-minute rides...The new ride is on the Aug. 20 agenda for the Chicago Plan Commission so the public can air any concerns.
Ald. Brendan Reilly (42nd), whose ward includes Navy Pier, said he's not sure the ride needs Plan Commission approval, but officials decided to err on the side of caution.
The ride would carry passengers 35 stories up and cost $17.50 for those 13 and under and $25 for those 14 and up. We'll stick with Virgania Horsen, thankyouverymuch.

Willis tower?
I'm not sure what ledges this article refers to. Are there new high rises out in Hoffman Estates?
There is no Willis Tower. There is only Zuul.
Wow. Thanks for reminding me why I don't watch SNL.
I am disappointed in chicagoist for bowing to pressure from the Willisists.
Sears Tower. Sears Tower. Sears Tower. Please, Chicagoist, please (no sarcasm) call it the Sears Tower!
