There are moves afoot in regards to last night's Wrigley Field outfield shenanigans. Cubs chairman Crane Kenney personally called Philadelphia outfielder Shane Victorino and apologized. Not only that, the Tribune is reporting that charges will be filed if/when the perp is caught. The matter is now with the Chicago Police who will charge the fan with assault - after the Cubs and Victorino filed a complaint - if the fan is caught. And, by all accounts, it looks like he will. Besides the above image, courtesy of Deadspin, the Trib's story features a detailed Getty Image of the fans involved that pretty clearly shows who was the thrower. You can also reference the video below which confirms what the pics already show.

Weekend Diversion: Night Of The Ponies

Guys who make plain white t-shirts a fashion statement are generally giant douchebags. The fucking shitty Kanye West glasses, the mesh hat and the wristbands just complete the look. If you want to go as a Douchebag for Halloween, just put these items on.
what's wrong with plain t-shirts? I'd rather wear a plain t-shirt than one with free advertising on it.
The problem with this individual isnt their fashion, it's the drunken idiocy.
Nothing is wrong with plain white t-shirts, i have a ton of them. this guy has the feel of an idiot who pays $50 for a plain white t-shirt because of the name on the tag. then he buys some fucking shit-ass sunglasses, wristbands...the guy screams DOUCHEBAG
Yeah, he probably buys his t-shirts from American Apparel and...
Gotta wonder if the team will throw down a lifetime ban like they do to misbehaving fans of European soccer clubs. Because the evidence is pretty damn conclusive from the above YouTube video, just imagine how conclusive an HD replay of the incident will be.
How exactly does a lifetime ban on a fan work? I know they can post pictures of the guy all over, but do you think those octogenarian and slack-jawed kid ushers would really pay attention to every face that comes through the ballpark turnstyles? Hell, they don't even really look at the tickets now, just run a scanner over them. Let this trendoid shave, put on a real shirt and a pair of Buddy Holly glasses and he'll be back in the bleachers tomorrow.
A couple of things. One, somebody other than the tool in question had to have seen the toss, and yet everybody sat on their hands and let the wrong guy get carted off. Two, at about 19 seconds, you see the tool trying to get the attention of security and pointing to himself. Was he trying to cop to the crime, or was he trying to say he saw what happened as further evidence to implicate the other guy?
He actually points at the other guy. They showed it once, perfectly, live during the game. That video is sh-t, in quality and zoom.
Either way, there are enough pictures of this guy that he'll be caught. I would highly doubt this guys has no enemies, or vindictive co-workers.
It looks like the Phillies left fielder spotted the beer thrower.
Did Crane call the guy they threw out incorrectly and apologize to him too? And can a lawyer explain assault in this situation? It shouldn't have happened and he should be punished, but the guy didn't throw a cinder block at Victorino.
Besides, the cubs have bigger issues than this - like the ass whoppin' laid on them last night. This reminds me of the 2004 Mercker/announcer situation - let's use this as an excuse as to why this team is just horrible right now.
What a giant douche. And yeah, everyone saw him do it -- including the security guard standing in front of him and the left fielder, how did he get away?
Corrupt politicians for decades.
Police brutality that leads the nation.
Kids getting shot throughout the whole summer.
By all means, let's put every ounce of effort to catch a guy a charge him with "assault with a beer".
Gimme a break...this is a feel good story that sums up how backwards thinking Chicago really is.
The cops won't even catch him, he'll turn himself in and have the press conference.
What was that?...another kid gunned down on the west side?
Let's not make it sound like the Phillies won't ever come back and play here.
This is PR bullshit, and the police are enjoying this becauase for once they won't look like the fuckheads that they are.
One minute of CPD resources on this is a gross waste of time. It's not like the guy ran on the field and slugged a pitcher, which at least 2 Cub fans have done in the last 15 years.
The Cubs had to file a report though, it wouldn't have looked good if they didn't. but that's probably the end of it.
agreed- total waste of CPD resources.
not a big deal
A crime's a crime. You'd rather they arrest people for some crimes and not others? Go talk to the judicial system which determines what IS a crime, not blast CPD for merely doing what they're supposed to do, which is arrest those accused of a crime. How do any of you know HOW much manpower they're putting on this. For all anyone know's it's just some guy at a desk and maybe an announcement for the guys on the street to keep their eyes open and if they happen to see the guy, bring him in. It's not like their going door to door with dogs. Geez, slow down, you defenders of govenment waste.
Stealth...great question.
Yes, I'd rather leave this guy in the streets, and put any effort used for this to be used stopping another crime.
My knee jerk reaction to government waste comes from living in Chicago, Illinois, USA.
Where does your rose colored glasses towards government come from?
What's rose colored about letting the cops do their job and me going about my business. Like I said, unless you can prove to me that there's a 20-man tactical force looking for this guy, I have no problem with him being arrested and neither should you. How is it "government waste" for the police to do what they're hired to do?
Go wash your Che t-shirt...
"letting the cops do their job"
"How is it "government waste" for the police to do what they're hired to do?"
You have kind of an Opie Tayler view of the Police. We're not in Mayberry, and Andy Griffith is not the sheriff.
For starters, police do not do what they are hired to do. They get a failing grade at that. They don't protect us, in fact the Chicago Police Department make the city a more violent place to live.
No sir, Chicago Cops do NOT do their job.
That is what i mean by you having rose colored glasses on. Chicago Cops "doing their job"...I am laughing my ass off right now.
Chicago cops fail at everything they touch.
I'll agree with you that I don't know how much effort is being put towards this...but it does say "The matter is now with the Chicago Police"...so it is **not** zero effort, although it should be.
Whatever effort is being put towards this is a waste.
Aunt Bea just jay walked...CALLING ALL CARS!!
You have kind of an Opie Tayler view of the Police.
Nope I have the view of someone who's lived here more than 40 years, a lot of it in public housing (Robert Taylor) and seen both sides there and realize that if some shit goes down, I'm most likely gonna call a cop rather than the guy at the corner store.
Chicago cops fail at everything they touch.
So I guess you're either gonna suck it up and take it or call Ghostbusters when you get robbed or worse...
I'll agree with you that I don't know how much effort is being put towards this...
Then maybe you should find out first before you break your neck up on that soapbox railing against waste and corruption.
Tell you what, why don't you just give us a list of the crimes you have determined are worth enforcing and which aren't. That'll save a lot of time.
No problem...here's a list of crimes not worth enforcing:
1.) A Beer throwing Cubs fan in the bleachers of Wrigley Field :-)
Irish, you lost that battle, badly. I would go on saying why, but I'm a bit tipsy and it's not worth my effort.
The guy has been caught. Go on crusading for a better Chicago, one post at Chicagoist at a time. Blah.
The very first story on Chicagoist right now, is that the guy turned himself in.
The Klondike Chicago cops did nothing to "catch" the guy.
The whole point was missed the minute Stealth does his Fox News imitation of breaking up a sentence of mine into fragments to make an invalid point.
My first post was mostly pointing out the irony of how big this story got in a crimed filled city like Chicago.
Cheers to ya though.
Happy Friday! :-)
Want me to call a doctor to remove that bug up your ass? Geez, drop it and try to enjoy life...
Stealth...you are posting to tell me to stop posting? Huh??
Your replies come off as if you read three words of what people post, and then you are off typing away.
Anyways, try to have a fun Friday. You're too old to sweat something an irishman says. :-)
because police presence has been such a great crime deterrent on the south and west sides, right? violence in chicago's poor neighborhoods is a function of many things, but unfortunately, police enforcement is among the lesser of those variables.
as stealth already said, a crime's a crime, and i doubt it will take much effort to bring this loser in.
i hope someone on here works with the dude
The public seems to dying to find this guy and learn about him. I confess that I have the same desire. You can bet that all his co-workers have seen that photograph and one of them will rat him out.

Hooray for MLB's cluelessness and renowned paranoia.
