During last night's debacle at Wrigley, one bleacher bum decided it was a good idea to toss his beer on Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino, who had just caught a fly ball hit by Jake Fox in left-center field. Another fan. who began taunting Victorino, was ejected by security becuse they thought he was the brew hurler. In fact, he was not but by the time Cubs security could view tape of the situation, the offender has slipped away. The Cubs hope to identify the fan and prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law. The team hopes other Cubs fans will help to identify the culprit.

Guys like this make it hard to be a Cubs fan. Also, I reckon the reason they didn't catch the beer-throwing douche was because they didn't check in John Barleycorn. I mean, really, where else would a guy that like that run to?
Also: I've seen that headline on this story in 3 other places. Which is amusing.
It appears the Tribune Corporation owes the gentleman pictured a ticket to a game in the future.
Deadspin has a great picture of the d-bag.
It was the grandson of (a href="http://www.geocities.com/shoeless_60067/AlSmith.jpg">this guy
I meant this guy: http://www.geocities.com/shoeless_60067/AlSmith.jpg
Oh, screw it. Cut and paste the link.
Joke fail.
I'm more surprised that Geocities still exists. Did you find that picture through an AltaVista search?
Nah, just did an "Al Smith" search. That's pretty much the only photo of him that ever comes up.
Link like this: the words or URL people will see
I did that. I think I forgot the closing "" a the end, thought.
Did I mention that I sort of maintain a website for a government agency? It was sorta thrust on me, though.
the dude who threw the cup looks like a complete DB - what's with the arm sweat bands?
I already wrote about this in the box score thread, but yeah -- that was total bullshit. I stopped watching the game at that point, not that it had been particularly watchable to that point anyway. I really hope they get this stupid asshole.
And to the guy that did get kicked out, "right after something happens that will get you kicked out of the stadium" is not the best time to begin taunting the victim of the crime, you dumb ass. I knew right away they didn't have the right guy, but I'm glad that WGN didn't replay it but the one time -- no need to give people that pull shit like that extra air time.
Anyone see the US-Mexico game? It makes one beer seem like nothing.
You've got that right grandma. That was a torrent of cups and bottles, however, nothing new for US away games (and some home ones as well).
11 posts and no one has started Cubs fans versus Sox fans? I am pleasantly surprised by that.
Hopefully it's because everyone realizes that idiots exist in every stadium in america.
That, and it'd be .5 seconds before someone brought up William Ligue.
What really shocked me were the way Phillies fans reacted, considering what's happened at Citizens Bank Park just within the last month.
I'm a Sox fan, but who cares? This sort of thing makes us all look bad.
Just because they were at Wrigley Field doesn't make them a Cubs fan, especially if they are sitting in the bleachers.
The white and blue hat with a big round C on it would indicate otherwise.
The giant girl sunglasses and the stupid wristbands indicate flaming douchebag who grabbed a cubs hat from under his bed and dusted it off because his buddies CJ and Chad had bleacher seats!!!!!!!!!!
Don't care. Holland and England fans fought in pitched battles yesterday in Amsterdam before a freaking friendly. Wrigley fans are pacified now, back in the 80s I feel like a beer was thrown onto the field practically every game.
True- this is not a big deal... media pawns should stop vilifying this guy.
For a group of people who publically humiliated and ostracized one poor kid out of not just the stadium but his own city I don't see how you're all about proper manners now.
cubs fans suck.
oh, here we go...
yet pointless another cubs vs. sox fans debate. in 3...2...1...
You MOTHERF ... nah, just kidding. I swear, Matty, I don't suck.
I saw a Cub fan kick a puppy and use the Lord's name in vain one time... I swear.
I just saw video on YouTube that gives a very good close-up of the true perpetrator.
His friends and family will surely recognize him. It's a matter of time before we know who he is.
The video also shows the wrong guy getting hauled off.
Funny how this topic gets 20+ comments, many of them railing on this "douchebag" while the various topics on the recent muggings/attacks (you know, real crimes) on here get 1-3 comments, if any.
What are you looking for?
"Oh those d-bag muggers. I bet they're White Sox fans!"
Not every story needs commentary.
It's just interesting and a bit sad how people can get so worked up about something like this. Yeah he did something stupid and shitty, but it's orders of magnitude better than what happens to people on dark streets nearly every day in this city. We're so accustomed to hearing about real violence that we just shake our heads as we scroll past the headlines looking for something more interesting. But a beer thrown on a baseball player? Now that's something that really gets our pulse racing!
What makes this story so adorable to me is all the OUTRAGE that sports writers will spill over it. They'll demand this little boy(And here he is folks, he's a 21 year old dum-dumb from Bartlett) be locked in the stocks or driven into the lake bearing chains of iron for his crime.
Everyone does stupid crap like this at that age. He just went the extra mile and did it in public, on television to a famous athlete. Dum-dum.
