Once upon a time there was the perfect couple: Brad and Jen. Then along came a woman, Angie, who broke them up. The End.
Why are we still talking about this almost five years later? Now the story has made it to the stage, tainting the high cultural imprint of our fair city. The Tragedy of Jennifer, Brad and Angelina (Thank God they didn’t call it Brangelinnifer.) is part of Blackbird Theatre Company’s inaugural season. However, the show is cleverly marketed as “As performed by the Members of Blackbeard Theatre in their Last Production Due to the Recession.” We’re not sure if they’re kidding because the show revolves around a struggling theater company or if they’re really closing after their first season. They wouldn’t be the first.
The performance should provide some good laughs for all the pop culture junkies out there. However, remember the show’s a tragedy and the telling is serious. Um, yeah right.
The Tragedy of Jennifer, Brad and Angelina opens tonight at the Side Project (1439 W. Jarvis Ave) and runs through Sept. 6.

Wow. I never knew how easy it was to pick apart something you haven't actually seen. If you'd like to attend the show and form a real opinion about it, I would be happy to provide you with complimentary tickets. Since I've registered for your website, you should have my email.
And thank you for all the kind words. It's just so great to see an events website being so supportive and thougtful of the people who spent so much time putting together this production. We really appreciate you giving us such a public critique with no real facts to back it up. That's just awesome of you.
It seems this is a stage production of an old backissue of Star magazine, the very concept of which should invite immediate analysis far more pointed than that seen here. If the rest of the production is handled by people as humorless as dmholtz, I think I'll pass.
Again, I welcome you to attend the show and find out what it is actually about instead of taking blows at my sense of humor.
Anyone actually attending the show will realize that it's a satirical look at the idolization of celebrities juxtaposed with the loss of focus on artistic merit in theatre and entertainment today. The fact that more people in Chicago would rather see the stage versions of Legally Blonde and Xanadu than anything with artistic merit is the real tragedy being analyzed. The poster of this event summary is seemingly mocking Blackbird Theatre Company for sharing her opinion on this matter.
Is it "Blackbird Theatre" or "Blackbeard Theatre"?
If it is the former they need to edit their poster ASAP. Or maybe I just don't get the joke.
The real company is Blackbird Theatre, but the play is a fictional story about "Blackbeard Theatre."
For anyone who is visiting Chicago or is unfamiliar with this play I want to make it clear to them that Suzy Evans had not seen the play when she wrote the above "article of interest". (I am getting a lot of people from out of town asking questions because they are reading this as a review.) The above article is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek and therefore not to be taken seriously. If anyone would like to read an actual review of the play, please click on the links below for Time Out Chicago, The Chicago Reader and Centerstage:

Thank you for your interest!
No, Suzy didn't see the play, and you're obviously unfamiliar with our site.
Suzy's piece is a preview and she wrote it in the tongue-in-cheek style of an USWeekly or People blurb to match the subject of the play. I didn't read it as a slam on the play or in any way an entreaty to folks to avoid the production. Our posts strive to have a unique voice while letting folks know of things, everything from general news to the arts, we find of interest. In this instance, Suzy saw an interesting listing and decided to give it some publicity along with some colorful commentary.
Sorry about the free publicity for a local theater company.
Thank you for clearing that up for all of those who may/may not see the play based on the above piece. You are correct, I am unfamiliar with your website. For the past three days I have been looking for more information about the Chicagoist and have failed to find any information posted about what the goal of your website is. If you could direct me to where your mission statement is posted I would greatly appreciated it, as I am definitely interested in learning more about the Chicagoist.
Well, a good place to start would be the About Us section that's in the sidebar to your left...
That was the first place I went to and all it tells me is that you are the the most popular blog in Chicago and that you are dedicated to Second City. This tells me nothing about your brand. Please enlighten me...
Man, you theatre people are really bad at this marketing thing.
Why do you assume that I am a theatre person?
You will need to copy and paste the above links into your URL address bar. My apologies.
