- The Chicago Park District has made the controversial decision to rename the site of "The Ft. Dearborn Massacre" (located at at 18th Street and Calumet Ave.) to "Battle of Ft. Dearborn Park."
- Will County Judge Stephen White today delayed a change of venue hearing on Drew Peterson's case until October 2nd and began preparing the jury pool.
- The Spire is looking even less likely than before.
- The FBI has arrested a Chicago man for a terrorism threat hoax.
- The CTA and Pace play the feud.
- You could buy a CTA Map shirt or you could buy a shirt with the map to my heart.

The park named "The Battle of Fort Dearborn Park" is still missing something. Specifically, the statue that used to stand in this area.
The statue (which I have seen) is in storage underneath Roosevelt Road near Wells Street. There, that is a bit of top-secret information. I guess I am a blabbermouth. Anyway, the statue is in great shape.
Native Americans--some, anyway--feel the statue is too violent and depicts Native Americans in a bad light.
I say that the statue looks fantastic and should be put back at 18th and Calumet.
When white people won: Battle
When Indians won: Massacre
No, the Indians did not "win", it was a slaughter following the surrender of the fort. Hundreds of Potawatomis (upwards of 500) fell on less 70 soldiers and dozens of civilians.
Again, the Fort was already surrendered to the British at this point. It was a massacre.
Does that mitigate all the horrors done by Europeans to Native American over the centuries? No. But calling this a "battle" is inaccurate at best and simple pig-ignorance at worst.
Thanks Jess,
Again in the reverse: A battle.
What was the park called previously?
