It was a simple stakeout at first, but eventually a boat chase broke out on Lake Michigan early this morning. Police were on a stakeout at Monroe Harbor due to a recent number of burglaries that had occurred there. A boat approached the harbor and went dark. When a police boat approached, the mysterious boat took off. According to WBBM:
“Our guys were watching them. As our boats approached they fired up this fast boat with no lights on and took off running. They hit the lake,’’ the sergeant said. The sergeant said officers in their newest, fastest boat gave chase north and trapped them near Navy Pier.“They made a wrong turn they turned too soon,’’ and officers were able to stop the boat by Dime Pier, a little wooden pier that runs out on the south end of Navy Pier, he said.
Neither man has been charged with anything yet.
Crockett and Tubbs were unavailable for comment.

I fully support Miami Vice style boat chases and boat burglaries on Lake Michigan. That's a new kind of drama we aren't used to in these parts. The lake could use a little more action. All we're used to now is e. coli outbreaks and beaches dirtier than the Jersey shore.
I'm thinking that still comes from the episode "Out Where the Buses Don't Run," though I could be wrong.
I for one would like to see some pirates on Lake Michigan.
If CPD officers really want to play Crockett and Tubbs, they should be required to wear thin-fabric, pastel-colored, shoulder-padded sportcoats. Worn over a T-shirt, of course.
