Mado, Bluebird, Webster's Wine Bar Team Up for Sunday Dinner

2009_08_moaten.jpg Looks like the Publican/New Holland beer dinner isn't the only must-eat dinner in town Sunday. Rob and Allie Levitt of mado are putting together a five-course dinner of their own featuring wood-roasted pig’s head with spicy greens and marinated chickpeas, spit-roasted leg of mutton and smoked trout with apricots, chilies and polenta abbrustolita. The dinner starts Sunday at 6 p.m.

The food will set the stage for a "beer vs. wine" tasting in which Webster's Wine Bar sommelier Jeremy Quinn and Jason Baldacci of the Bluebird (working in conjunction with Wes Phillips of Windy City Distribution) will each pair a wine and beer with each respective course. We don't have a list of Quinn's wine pairings yet, but Phillips graciously sent us the seven beers he and Baldacci selected. Among the number is Moaten, an oak-aged sour Flemish red ale Two Brothers brewed in collaboration with Urthel Brewery's Hildegard van Ostaden. Moaten, which is Flemish for "friends," comes correct, as they say on the street. This beer is no joke and — next to Half Acre's Daisy Cutter — is our favorite new brew this year.

The cost for all this food and booze is pricey: $125. But when you consider all the food and the pairings, this actually a bargain. To RSVP, mado and Webster's have set up an e-mail address.
