Yes, it's snobby, but we kinda hate when mainstream media covers music. Trying to sell our moms on our favorite bands (especially 16 years and five records into their careers) is just silly, but if this appearance on CBS' Sunday Morning helps Wilco sell a few thousand more records, we'll allow it. But the Black Eyed Peas segue at the beginning is just dumb, and you can't tell us it's not.
Thanks, Marah!

This appearance actually spurred my grandmother to buy the new album. Who the hell else watches CBS Sunday Morning except for grandparents? I really don't know how to feel about that.
Here we go with the ageism again....I watched CBS Sunday Morning when Charles Kuralt was host and I was in my 20's.
I'm not a grandparent now and wasn't a grandparent then.
Sheesh.
Couple other things I love are Cowboy Beebop, Robot Chicken. What does age got to do with it?
I'm 33 years old. I catch CBS Sunday Morning about half the time it's on for the past 10 years or so. Quality program. You should give it a shot. Biggest tragedy of the profile however was Tweedy's haircut.
Same here. I watch it too and I'm not THAT old. It's got some pretty interesting segments, more leisurely interviews and not that typical hyper CNN type stuff. And I also watch the Daily Show, Colbert and Metalpocalypse. So, yeah, that agism thing...
I'm probably in the age range of Ingrid, soulsuck, and Stealth, and you can add me to the list of CBS Sunday Morning viewers, ever since I was about 5 years old and would watch for Charles Kuralt and the last minute or so where they take you someplace quiet. And that's what I've always liked about it ... it's so much more quiet than other news outlets. It doesn't feel the need to yell at you or constantly scream that we're all going to die of the pig flu. It just calmly tells you about interesting things and things you might want to know.
I love this show. I also love Antiques Roadshow. And those Dateline murder mysteries. I am 33 going on 63, apparently.
Antiques Roadshow is the coolest. It's my second favorite show on TV.
I love any of those Dateline, Primetime or 20/20 murder mysteries. Love them. (and I just would like to know when husbands and wives are going to stop murdering each other because if your spouse is murdered, YOU are the first suspect. How can people continue to be so stupid? But I digress).
I have a friend though, whose husband loves Antiques Roadshow, but she refers to it as "Eyelid TV"....it bores her to death. I have to be in the mood for that show, sometimes it's pretty entertaining and informative.
The commentator did speak in an elementary way, like she was speaking to children (or very old people).
I'm not a mom, but I am 28 and I have never seen this CBS show in my life.
I try to watch CBS Sunday Morning every Sunday and I'm 26. I think it's a great show.
As cheesy as this may be, the numbers don't lie - they went from the #26 selling album on Amazon to the #2 selling album the day after this aired:

Semi-related, on the topic of MSM covering music, it would seem that the ABC News/Pitchfork partnership has paid off pretty well for both the network and (more importantly) the bands featured. Not quite the same thing as Sunday Morning, I realize.
believe it or not, but CBS' Sunday Morning is a totally great show. Try DVRing it for a month... in the past few weeks they've had profiles of Quentin Tarrantino, Judd Apatow and now Jeff Tweedy. And they usually have some really interesting feature stories. The episode commemorating the Apollo landing and Walter Cronkite was very well done.
It's a great show. It's on at a terribly early hour.
I used to watch it as a kid with my mom. It's kind of a relaxed, "Sunday Paper", style. It's kind of like the arts coverage that NPR does (when it's not terrifying us with econocollapse stories).
By the way,
Might want to do a little more digging before you post Lizz.
@jess_nevins What did I get wrong in one paragraph?
Looks like the comment system ate my link.
CBS sunday morning isn't just for "people's moms" it's ranked #1 for it's timeslot with 25-54 year olds.

The whole purpose of the show has been to take a "Sunday Paper" approach to arts and culture. Which is exactly what this segment is.
What did you get wrong? Beyond sounding like you don't know what the show is, who makes up it's audience and generally sounding like the worst kind of music snob ("Oh my god! People haven't been reading Pitchfork!") nothing I guess.
Elevate your game.
There are a lot of moms in that 25-54 age group, hehe.
Off to write that email to Pitchfork about what I should have for dinner. They always have the answer!
first, 25-54 IS the mom demographic.
second, CBS has had a long standing reputation for having an audience that skews much older than its competition. it's only in recent years that this has begun to change.
third, 'pitchfork' was never even mentioned in the article.
so, what did you get wrong in that comment? besides not understanding the demographic history of cbs, who the numbers themselves represent and sounding like the typical overly-defensive pitchfork brat... nothing I guess.
Lizz, it's ok. just try it before you've got a posted opinion about it. I didn't know what I was talking about either in my 20s with my serious opinions. I'm 35 and I still don't know what I'm talking about with my serious opinions.
Actually, I think you'd be surprised. . .spent yesterday with my folks, who started singing along to them playing the new Black Eye'd Peas. . .Oh, they then went into a conversation about how satellite radio was helping them rediscover music again. . and Wilco was one of their new favorites.
So, I think this is probably spot on. And whenever I have the day off from work. . .I enjoy watching Martha Stewart. . .I can 't cook or clean, but its a great show.
Frankly, I know as you get older and life, work, and children take ahold of you, its hard to discover music. Our parents didn't have the luxury of the internet being a prevalent source of discovery. . so they are just getting into it.
Good for Wilco, they are a good band. . .and if my parents and I listen to some of the same music and hit some shows together again. . .I say AWESOME.
