Chicagoist Podcast 8/29 - Live from New York, It's Hannibal Buress

hannibalburress0809.jpg Just a few short days ago, Hannibal Buress got the news that he had been hired as a writer for the new season of Saturday Night Live. Just a few short hours ago, he found a few minutes to speak with the Chicagoist Podcast - probably in between counting his lucky stars and shrieking with glee.

So...what's it like? How does one go from an appearance on Jimmy Fallon to joining the writers room of the most famous comedy program in the country? Does the new guy have to pick up the bagels? Who's hazing who? What does a standup bring to a sketch comedy show? And how can a guy sound so calm just an hour before walking into your first day on the biggest job a comedy writer can get? Holy hell!

If brevity is the soul of wit, this is a witty GD podcast. More next week, and as always, Itunes here and RSS here. Get with it. Next week: Liquor & Lebowskis. Get those White Russian mixers together now. Thanks for listening!

THANK YOU!!!! For finally changing the player for the podcast to one that doesn't lock up my browser or make it crash and that I can actually listen to (well, at last at work.)

The Google player started acting wonky for me a few weeks ago, and we've been having some problems with autoplay on a few posts...but if I had known it was negatively impacting your listening pleasure, Stealth, I would have changed it long ago.

And thanks for trying to listen, at least, over the past few weeks.

congrats to him! i've seen hannibal buress before, he's a pretty good comedian.

I remember when he was first starting out here and was looking for stage time anywhere. He used to come to Weeds on Monday poetry night and Heartland on Wednesday night poetry and do stand up. He was funny then and I had to admire his determination.

I like this guy. Congrats to a funny dude who deserves a shot.

Congratulation Hannibal Burress for this achievement. I am a regular viewer of Saturday Night Live and I hope your contribution would make it more appealing and interesting.

Right on for him. A few years ago, a bunch of comics started invading my favorite open mics, to the point that they were more comedy than spoken word/music and, to be honest, Hannibal was one of the only guys that ever actually made me laugh.

I wish I could remember the joke that prompted this aside: "Yep. I just used that science textbook word for my dick joke there."
