They jail a guy for 30 years for sexual assault, let him out and they think it's not going to happen again?
Our system is ridiculous.
I've read that chemical castration is not effective (but I don't understand why). There has to be some other method in dealing with this kind of thing if they're going to let guys like this back out on the streets.
Agreed. There is something fundamentally wrong with the criminal justice system, especially with regards to sex offenders who have such a staggeringly high rate of recidivism.
Castration does not eliminate the desire, but sex offenders are made not born and I think a more humane prison system from which they cannot ever be released makes much more sense. They not only make victims, but new offenders as well.
Well, the problem is that liberals only believe in giving these people a slap on the wrist and then rehabilitating the offender. This is so liberals can feel good about themselves for being so compassionate. There are many liberal judges out East who sentence offenders to very little jail time.
But, as usual, liberals point fingers elsewhere and ignore the consequences of their policies/actions.
You call 30 years in prison a slap on the wrist? This guy probably got raped in prison more times than you could count.
Dig is right...we need a more humane prison system. You spend decades in the slammer getting treated like dirt, you're coming out angrier and meaner than when you went in.
Who does this benefit?
You're right. I think the problem is that we are too mean to them. We should give them satellite TV in their cells, along with a stocked bar and La-z-boy recliner. We could also have a social worker sit with them and discuss their feelings and ask them nicely not to rape again. Then they will come out ready to contribute to society.
Do you want them coming out contributing to society or raping more women?
Or maybe every person who gets sent to prison should either stay there til they die or get sent off to the Death Panels.
Or maybe you're just yanking my chain because nobody can really be this dense.
Ah, hyperbole, the first refuge of the right-wing lunkhead. It's the "adult" version of "Well if you like it so much why don't you marry it?"
Violent sexual offenders being warehoused in jails doesn't work. These are individuals with deep mental issues, often neurological damage. I've seen studies show how most repeat rapists have substantially lower IQ, often bordering on autistic.
Putting them in prisoner for 10-20-30 years just makes the situation worse. Often they become more violent (viewing society to "blame" for their lot) and are more likely to re-offend.
When we start treating sexual predation as a mental health problem and not simply a means for right-wingers to crow about how tough and big and strong they are, we'll see real progress.
Ah, the insult. The only refuge of rabid left-wingers, who blame our cruel, capitalist society for all the ills of the world and wish everyone were as compassionate and "intelligent" as they are.
What a joke. You left-wingers are quite funny. You rant and rave about birthers, yet you worship a man (Obama) who has 9-11 Truthers in his administration (Van Jones). Of course, you probably share those views and tell everyone else they are stupid for not believing it.
Locking up sex offenders doesn't work? Why? Because you proclaim it doesn't? What doesn't work is letting them off easy and putting them through BS counseling sessions where they are allowed to blame their condition on other factors and are back out on the streets again with no remorse.
I think they should be waterboarded.
you should see your doctor for hypertension. you may have a problem.
wish everyone were as compassionate and "intelligent" as they are.
Don't you wish everyone was intelligent and compassionate? Is stupid and cruel the way to go? I'm curious to see that political platform.
What a joke. You left-wingers are quite funny. You rant and rave about birthers, yet you worship a man (Obama)
I didn't vote for him. Try again.
who has 9-11 Truthers in his administration (Van Jones).
Ah, you read the drudgereport. The only source for right-wing screeching.
Of course, you probably share those views and tell everyone else they are stupid for not believing it.
Nope. I think 9/11 was committed by a band of religious fanatics whose presence in the US was well-known, and whose threat to use airliners as missiles was warned about for weeks before the attack. When the sitting president and congress (republican) did nothing. Well, besides clear brush on the ranch.
Locking up sex offenders doesn't work? Why? Because you proclaim it doesn't?
No, because the Department of Justice proclaims it. Actually they simply point out the very high recidivism rates for sex offenders. Which would indicate that something is not working. Well, to people who believe "EVIDENCE". Pshaw.
What doesn't work is letting them off easy
How is a 30 year prison sentence "easy"? No one is arguing that they be be given a vacation to Cabo and an Amex black card. Getting them treatment might prevent them from committing the crime again. Fix the problem.
and putting them through BS counseling sessions where they are allowed to blame their condition on other factors and are back out on the streets again with no remorse.
Other factors being what? Mental illness? Rapists and pedophiles have serious cognitive damage. Are you aroused by sexual images of pre-pubescant children? No, I'd wager not. How about beating a sexual partner and forcing them to submit to you while they beg for their life? No? That's because you don't suffer from deep mental impairments (oh you're a little ignorant, but that's not too bad) caused by genetic disorders, abuse and a whole host of other factors.
In short, they're diseased. This does not excuse their crimes or give them a pass, but it does mean there might be a batter way to deal with them than warehousing them for decades and letting them loose like some kind of farm-raised wolf.
I think they should be waterboarded.
Perhaps I was wrong about you MM. You may need a bit of help.
You know as well as I do that it was Deborah Sims who got some white guy working for her or another of Toddler's cronies to make those phony as hell threatening calls.
He apparently left them on an answering machine.
Only a Toddler supporter is that stupid!
This is the same as the old brick through the campaign office window when you're losing the election. It gets you publicity, but everyone with an IQ larger than their shoe size knows the candidate had one of their own people do it!
the Catholic Church investment makes me think of George Karlin in Dogma
