The Friday Buffet

It's Labor Day weekend, but that doesn't mean all of us are grilling for possibly the final time this season. Here are some events, tastings, dinners and special offers to keep you busy this weekend and beyond:

  • Today: Obsequious name aside, the inaugural Chicago Luxury Ice Cream Festival at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum should have a flavor for everyone. (7-10 p.m., $25)
  • Tomorrow: La Madia and Quartino are both celebrating National Cheese Pizza Day. La Madia (59 W. Grand Ave., 312-329-0400) will get the kiddies involved in the act by giving them a a chance to make their own cheese pizza. Quartino (626 N. State St., 312-598-5000) is offering half off cheese pizzas during lunch service only.
  • Monday: to celebrate Michael Jordan's induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame on September 11, one sixtyblue is offering fans of Number 23 a chance to be like Mike. jordan's traditional pre-game meal, a 14-oz prime aged Delmonico rib eye smothered with caramelized shallots and served with a baked potato and steamed broccoli, will be available all week. then you can come out of retirement, stink it up playing in DC for two years and draft Kwame Brown.   • Wednesday: The Hideout's final Veggie Bingo will be called by special guests Jon Langford and Sally Timms. Play for a chance to win a box of produce from Irv & Shelly's fresh picks. (1354 W. Wabansia, 6-8 p.m.)
  • Wednesday: Green City market's annual Localvore Challenge begins. Word of advice to those taking the plunge: don't drink and get a craving for fish tacos.
  • Thursday: Sam's Wine & Spirits is hosting a Bordeaux Grand Tasting from 5-8 p.m. $25 will allow customer to sample from a selection of 200 wines and 250 cheeses. (1720 N. Marcey St.)
