Once More With Feeling: Oprah Wraps Big Opener

Around 20,000 people showed up on a stretch of the Mag Mile to help Oprah film the season premiere for her upcoming 24th season. After all the arguments over how disruptive it would be versus how good it is for the city's image, it's all over. The Tribune reports things got a little hairy early in the day with people pushing and shoving at times, but for the most part, the event seemed to go off without a hitch and the city continued pushing this as a great marketing opportunity, not to mention something to pad the city's resume in the last push for the 2016 Olympic bid.

"For us to have this kind of marketing to get people to think twice about Chicago in their travel plans is huge," said John Chikow, president and CEO for the Greater North Michigan Avenue Association, noting that officials from Winfrey's Harpo Productions reached out to the city in mid-August.

The show is scheduled to air tomorrow.

The Black-Eyed Peas group dance seems like it took its inspriation from a viral video from Sasquatch music festival 2009. www.spudart.org/blogs/randomthoughts_comments/5092_0_3_0_C/

The group dance looked frighteningly like a hippie cult.

Oprah, baby, listen. I struggled with my weight all my life, finally getting to my goal weight in early 2007. It's a bitch. Worse than drugs, worse than drink, cause you still gotta eat right? And food is love and...well...you know.

But sweetie, babydoll, listen to Daddy. I say this with love, with affection, as someone who KNOWS.

Yellow is not the fattie's friend.

That was cruel...and funny. Damn, what to do?

I have seen her in so many unflattering outfits...I think that her 'people' are so afraid to say 'no' to her, and so anxious about getting into her good graces, that they flatter her no matter what she looks like. She needs to have some people who aren't afraid to tell her the truth.

And how can she NOT lose the weight when she has personal trainers, chefs, doctors, stylists, make-up artists, shoppers and gurus at her beck and call 24/7?

And dear lord, look at those bingo wings!
I think she should just embrace the big girl that she is and stop always talking about weight. She's big. Some people are just big. She should just concentrate on eating healthy food and walking a few miles every day.

Yellow looks good on co-eds and brazilians. Man, look at Beth Ditto, she's big and bold as brass. She's not gonna wear some lace-up blouse nonsense with pinstripe pants (!) which look suited for a highschool VP.

Losing weight is a bitch. Outside of an afterschool special, no one is going to say "Come on, have just a little heroin!" or "Oh, you're an alcoholic? Just have one little drink." and yet people who eat emotionally, who have real disorders about food and eating, get that shit all the time from friends and family.

Hell, last week a co-worker was whining that I was "picky" because I didn't eat any of the Krispy Kreme she "drove all the way to Des Plaines" to get.

Mind you, Oprah has inflicted more charlatans, fad diets and just BAD THINKING on the world than damn near any media figure in the past 30 years. But I still feel for her about the fatness.

I love Beth Ditto. I have mentioned her on this site in the past. She has a truly amazing sense of style and she is comfortable in her own skin.
Losing weight is not an easy thing, but if Oprah can't do it with her army of personal assistants, then I wish she'd just shut up about it and accept herself for who she is.
It's funny, but when I see Beth Ditto, I do not see 'fat', but when I see Oprah, that's what I see... because Oprah has made a career about her weight, and she's so damn preachy and annoying about it.
Look at Queen Latifah...she did Jenny Craig, shed some poundage, but she's still big, and she's gorgeous. She doesn't make getting skinny her defining issue.
I mean, is Oprah going to go into her 60's STILL whining about her weight? That seems like something she should have left behind in her 30's or early 40's. Grow up, move on girl!! Just be healthy from now on. Don't focus on those "size 10 Calvin Klein Jeans"...it's never going to happen and it's not important.

when i finally got down to the weight to fit into those size 10 guess jeans, my feet were too big and couldn't get them past my ankles.

And dear lord, look at those bingo wings!

And it was at this point that Stealth nearly spit coffee on his computer screen...

And the solid gold mike is a nice touch too. Should I have expected anything less for The Divine Miss O.

Nothing says "Come To Chicago" to a Parisian like Chriss Angel and Rascal Flatts on Michigan ave.

I went. I danced. I people watched. I had fun.

There. I said it.

"Bingo wings" is new to me. I just looked it up on Wikipedia and your use is perfect.

It just shows how much one can learn from reading Chicagoist!

She will never lose weight until she loses the alcohol. Obviously, she still just has to have her champagne. Gotta have her wine. Needs her wine.
Welcome back, fatso. Now start the "I can't believe I'm still talking about the weight" shows again.
Poser.

She actually mentioned her love of tequila a couple of times.

And hey, if i had to choose between being fat and being sober, I know what choice I'd make, too.
