A while back, we pointed out how ESPN's Bill Simmons laid out a challenge to recreate Ferris Bueller's day of hooky. Chicago Magazine's Jeff Ruby tried it a year ago but couldn't quite do it all. So now the Red Eye's social media intern Ernest Wilkin has taken up the mantle and even has an itinerary to boot with all the fun happening this Saturay. It's an ambitious undertaking and - sorry, Ernest - we're a bit skeptical he can pull the whole thing off. That's not to say we're rooting against him. On the contrary, it would be a feat worthy of a round of beers on us to Ernest and his cohort. So good luck to you, Ernest; we're looking forward to how it goes.

Extra, Extra

on a saturday? immediate failure.
Seriously. The entire point is that it's a day off from school. But what else would you expect from the brain trust at RedEye.
Why not wait until October 24. There's a Halloween parade on state street that day. Perfect chance to do an impromptu "Danke Schoen"...or maybe an impromptu Monster Mash.
As for the Cubs game...maybe they can arrange to just sit there in the empty stands for the required length of time.
Well, anyone could simply retrace Ferris' steps on any day...the thing that makes it difficult is that you need to attend both a Cubs game and the Von Stueben Day parade on the same day. That only happens one day a year...and maybe not even every year, if the Cubs are out of town on Von Stueben Day.
Of course, they have moved the Von Stueben parade to Lincoln Square from the Loop since Ferris' day off. Does this make it easier or harder to complete?
In any event, I read the itinerary...I think it can be done.
I assume this itinerary would include the necessary mid-afternoon soak in a hot tub with a Mediterranean teenage girl and a bag of Oreo cookies.
