Obama Planning Media Blitz

Speaking of President Obama and the issue that may keep him from going to Copenhagen in October, he's planning a big media blitz this weekend. You can look for him on the Sunday morning shows across the major networks including CBS, ABC, NBC, and CNN. He'll wrap it up by stopping by David Letterman's show, the first time a sitting present has visited Letterman. [Tribune]

Remember, if you don't like Obama's ideas, it is because there is an inherent feeling of racism that exists within you. Any sort of logicial, well reasoned objections to his plans are based on nothing but your hatred of blacks.

Sincerely,

President Jimmy Carter

Remember, any idea from Obama short of sticking our heads in the sand and waiting for new money to trickle down to poor and middle class people from their corporate masters, constitutes nothing less than full-on socialism, or perhaps 21st-century Nazism, and you should be as fearful as a little girl worried about shadows from the tree outside her window at night.

Oh yeah, he's not even a true American--consider his funny name, for instance--and most likely a Muslim who intends to convert the USA for Allah, and he is sooo skinny and vaguely metrosexual, unlike real Americans, who have patriotic beer guts and eat at McDonald's at least twice a week.

Sincerely,

The conservative opposition.

Remember, the bulk of both Democrats and Republicans are owned, body and "soul" by the insurance industry and whatever "reform" they propose has been vetted by their corporate overlords to insure that it only serves to further boost profits.

Oh yeah, and while the GOP has done a bang up job of racially-tinging a debate on health care, the Democratic party's history of using the African-American community as little more than a prop isn't exactly enlightened.

Sincerely,
People Paying Attention.

Which is, sadly, why reform through the existing political system, where the rules were written to protect the corporate status quo and all the assorted puppets, is all but impossible.

Sincerely,

"...logical, well reasoned objections.." for example, "You Lie!"

Are you objecting to what Carter actually said or are you just going to make shit up? Maybe you should wait and review your horseshit in the light of day. Criticism of anyone's words are invalid as soon as you intentionally misquote.

Sincerely

Why would anyone listen to Jimmy Carter?

Sincerely,
The Norwegian Nobel Committee

Instead of acknowledging that the fervor behind the dissent, not merely the dissent itself, is stoked in part due to racial prejudice, we choose to disingenuously interpret Pres. Carter's remarks to conflate dissent with racism. The so-called liberal media will help us achieve this.

Sincerely,
People who read headlines only

By the way, I kinda love this posting format.

well reasoned objections to his plans

Not forthcoming.

People hate Jimmy Carter because he told them the uncomfortable truths. They loved Ronald Reagan because he told them comforting lies.

Sincerely,
History

Yes, but people also hate Carter because he went on a tear of deregulation that, for one, made it harder to fly efficiently and affordably for many people in so-called fly-over country, and because he was feeble on Iran, and because Congress all but treated him as a prison bitch

Sincerely,

Satan's advocate

Look at the man's resume since leaving office. He walks the walk, he talks the talk. He's hated by those who know he's right--the "christian" hypocrites of the right, the angry, filthy rich, etc... they hate themselves first. Leave it to him to say it. Someone has to. The man has balls.

Sincerely,
Billy

Oh, yes. Carter was great. How about that highly inspirational "malaise" speech? That was great. Then the guy talked about discussing foregin policy with his daughter Amy, who was about 5 at the time. He was/is a joke in every sense of the word. He is also an anti-Semite.

I hope Obama keeps talking. He got a slight bump in the polls right after his ridiculous speech, but they have fallen back to pre-speech levels. Now he is going to overexpose himself. He is losing credibility by the day. Keep talking, Barry.

The best indication that the Democrats are losing it is the fact that they are calling anybody who disagrees with Obama as racist. That may work to their base, but most people are sick of racism accusations. So much for Obama being a post-racial President.

You can't even keep a good joke going. You're going to make a lousy father.

Sincerely,
The Stork

Anti-semitic?

It's funny--according to the standards of the loonies on the right, myself, and many Jews who live in Israel, also are antisemitic.

Wanna have a drink this weekend and tell me, in my face, how much I hate Jews? I'm buying. Seriously, I have some views on the foreign and domestic policies of Israel that are, in some places, close to the views that Carter (and even Bush the elder) had. Therefore, I must hate Jews, too--which is ironic for a variety of reasons. We can discuss this issue, MM. I assume you have been to Israel, right--I mean, you imply you love and look out for Jews.

"He was/is a joke in every sense of the word. "

Perhaps, but he is smarter, and more accomplished, than you are. So, if he's a joke, what does that make you? A half-completed punch line?

God, you are too stupid to keep a mildly clever format alive. Then again, what should one expect from a person whose side cannot decide if Obama is Marxist, Nazi or simply a Muslim terrorist-loving metrosexual?

If you do not agree with everything the Israeli Defense Force does at all times you are an Anti-Semite who would burn copies of the "Diary of Anne Frank" while dressed as Goebbels. This includes my girlfriend's Dad, a rabbi, who was arrested protesting against the war in Lebanon. Pay no attention to the fact his parents, Shoah survivors, were at the march as well.

Sincerely,
The Christian Right (who hate Jews, but aren't anti-semitic)

If you don't think Jews are there to serve as mascots for the second coming--after which they will be cast into the pits of hell--then you also hate america.

Love,

A Jesus freak

You're on, Matilda. I certainly can't pass up a free drink and a political debate. Alcohol and politics is a great combination.

That was quite a leap - by calling Jimmy an anti-Semite, I also said that you hate Jews? You're reaching.

No, I have not been to Israel. I guess that means I can't comment on the subject. Also, I don't like to make a big deal out of this because service is a choice, but I also served in the military. So your effort to shut me up by using the John Kerry rule (people who have not served cannot criticize people who have) does not work with me. Sorry.

Just so you know when you are ordering my drink, I am a big fan of Goose Island HOnkers Ale.

That may work to their base, but most people are sick of racism accusations.

lol,
In particularly racists...funny how that is..

"He was/is a joke in every sense of the word"

Another thing: Look at what Carter did, how he served, in the Navy and tell us again how he is a joke.

No, I don't think he was a great president (merely a mediocre one), but I do think he is a great American and one of the best men and patriots this country has produced. I am sure his life is richer and more meaningful than your apparently pathetic existence, which seems to involve getting cheap thrills from tossing around poorly constructed propaganda on some local blog (Dan Proft seems to be your mentor).

Get a hooker next time. You'll have more fun.

ah, there you are.

He was right on with his "Malaise" comment--the truth hurts, don't it. Good for him talking to his daughter, the daughter of the President of the United States--for fucks sake. How is he an anti-Semite? finish your goddamn statements.. back it up, man. Is it perhaps because he sees the complexities of the situation in Israel and isn't afraid to speak to them, calling Israel out for crimes committed? Like i said, he's got balls... left-swinging, ever-lustful, titanium balls. You tow the line, but can't follow through. Back up what you write or crawl back in your hole. You have nothing. Nothing.

Love,
Dad

Truth is just another liberal whine, and anti-American, too

Sincerely

The Right

Carter, who unlike the succeeding 5 presidents actually made some headway on Israeli/Arab relations, wrote a book critiquing Israeli policy in Palestine. Specifically, he talked about the illegal settlements, settlements which have provoked much of conflict over the past 30 years, and are opposed by nearly half of the Israelis themselves.

Carter handled a thug like Masked "Deadbeat Dad" Marauder with facts and reason during his book tour. It's a nice takedown to watch.

Interesting that pro-market folks should hate a guy for opening up an industry to market forces.

Also, it's my general understanding that air travel is generally cheaper (by an average of 30% by inflation-adjusted numbers, according to the fount of wisdom over at Wikipedia) and more efficient now than it was before deregulation, and that far more people fly now than did then. It managed to kill a number of airlines, and I doubt anybody would say the service is better, but it is more accessible.

Sincerely,
Nick Falzone

Interesting that one has to be either 100% free market or 100% socialist in this country, instead of setting pragmatic policy based on the context, as evidence by such American pansies as Teddy Roosevelt or Ike Eisenhower or Abe Lincoln (his land and rail policies were hardly totally free market).

Sincerely,

Sick of mindless ideology

Oh god...I could do this all afternoon.
LOL

The rap on Carter is because he includes the underdog. He wants to include Hamas in peace talks. Does this make him an anti-semite?
Not in my book.
The IRA was included in peace talks in Ireland and look at the results!

-Al Jazeera

They are the majority elected government in Palestine.

uh... -Navin.

So?
Don't they still refuse to recognize Israel's right to exist?

Ending my post with sincerely has really caught on! I am glad to see my influence causing such polite behavior on Chicagoist.
