Around Town: Michael, Nietzsche Guy

On Saturday, a team of Eyewitness News Chicagoist scribes were walking the streets of downtown Chicago (which we enjoy), scribbling metaphors about the gritty city into our Pulitzer Prize-winning notebooks and getting all hopped up on coffee drinks, when we encountered this young man and his sign standing on the Boule Mich, just outside the Art Institute. "Will play Nietzsche trivia for a dollar," it says. "If you win I will give you 50 push-ups." He told us his name is Michael, and that he comes here by way of San Francisco. He'll be sticking around town for a while, so brush up on your Zarathustra and pay him a visit. Oh, and yes, that's a Nietzsche tattoo.

He looks cheerful enough, but I'll bet he leads a life of quiet desperation.

" ...Pulitzer Prize-winning notebooks ..."

Those crazy folks at Columbia keep inventing new categories, I guess.

I can think of a few other, better things to play with him than Nietzsche trivia...

Does he ask you a question about Nietzsche? Or do you ask him a question about Nietzsche? Or is this some sort of name for a special trivia game that has nothing to do with Nietzsche and the answer to the question is only dependent on the perspective of the person who asks it?

We're not ready for your lot, sir. Keep traveling east until you hit Brooklyn.

That's my hubby! I love you bug. What was the name of Nietzsche's mother? Still can't remember! I love you, Kay.

Would you look at this? How shameful. You would think a man of his age would go out and work a real job?Instead he makes signs to beg money off people will play a game for a buck?
He obviously likes attention! He is like one of those beggers you see on free way or corner will work for food. But even lazier he challenges you to answer questions that no one cares about.
Another sewer rat ....Sad life by choice!
