2009_09_30_walgreens.gif Ever stumbled in to your neighborhood Walgreens to grab a six-pack before realizing, "Dammit, they don't sell booze at Walgreens!" Your troubles will soon be over, friends. The Deerfield-based company has announced that within the next 12-to-18 months, beer and wine will be available at its stores once it completes the complicated licensing process. [Fox 32]

the title of the post should be 'Walgreens Gets Ready To Booze It Up (Again).' when i lived in naperville in the mid-90s (shut up already), the walgreens in the ogden mall had a full liquor section, replete with a huge selection of airplane bottles. they were right next door to the dominick's. it was one stop shopping: halloween candy, sudafed (and you could totally stock your meth lab at that point in time), shampoo, and a 1.75 of captain morgan or a jug of gallo if that's how you swung.

i was a new drinker at the time, so i was more than likely picking up some hard cider or something.

Did the downtown naperville walgreens stock booze too? I spent my college years in downtown naperville. But as soon as I was old enough to buy legally, I would spend my time in the douchebag factory bars down there.

I came to Chicago in the late 90s and I know that Walgreen's still sold liquor then.

the CVS by me has a huge liquor section, although with Binny's across the street, they have no shot of getting any of my business.

They must be trying to compete with CVS. I'm always down for more liquor, hell you can buy everything ELSE at Walgreen's, so why not.

The CVS next to my office selling liquor has been a godsend on all-nighters. Everyone is in a much better mood after the 8pm booze run.

I say this entirely without sarcasm, but thank God, because we really need more liquor in Hyde Park.

Yep, the Wallgreens of my youth ('80s) was replete with a liquor section equipped with a turn-style. Glad they're returning to good ol' American values. If I can't live in a place where I can buy a ShamWow, Nyquil, and a pint of bourbon in the same place, then I don't want to live.
