Between health care and the failed Chicago 2016 Olympics bid, we knew the honeymoon was probably over for President Obama. Even SNL has turned on Obama as evidenced by last night's opening skit. Politics aside, we couldn't help but chuckle at the Chicago 2016 t-shirt joke.

Daaaamn. The truth hurts. All the "librul media" dopes should watch this.
I didn't see this as a big 'hit'...I saw it as a message to Obama to step up his game.
He needs to grow some nalgas and put bipartisanship on the side burner for now.
The Party Of No has shown they're not going to cooperate, they're not putting the citizens first, they're putting politics first.
We need universal health care. Their Medicare line is a boondoggle...it's corrupt doctors, insurers and scam artists who are bleeding it dry, not the system. Medicare works. There just needs to be better regulation against scamming it...hundreds of billion of dollars a year of medicare money gets wasted in scams.
Fix health care and move on.
Oh yes he can.
Funny, I didn't know cooperation was needed from Republicans with a Democratic supermajority in place...
I guess it's not, but Obama seems to be wanting them to be on board, which is why I want him to grow the nalgas.
My disdain is also directed at the dems who are flies in the ointment as well.
It's a tricky proposition for him, though. If he shoves his agenda through the congress, especially without the support of the entire party (or at least 95% of them) then he becomes the president of the liberals, which is a very dangerous place to be. I agree that he needs to push harder against the Party of No, especially since they haven't offered anything except the status quo, but it's something that needs to be done delicately, with a steady hand and a cool head. Those are two things that Barack Obama is good at, and I think he's managed the situation very well, given the circumstances.
Also, nalgas means 'buttcheeks'. I think the colloquialism you're looking for is cojones, although huevos would also be acceptable.
heh heh...thanks for the Spanish lesson :)
But maybe on just this one issue, healthcare, he can push it through with or without cooperation. It's never going to happen...he's never going to get their approval.
When I think of the cold hearts of people I've talked to in the last few months who are against universal health care or anything except the status quo, I just know that it's never going to happen...they'll never change their minds.
One lady I talked to recently was DEFENDING the fact that even though she was self pay (as a self employed person) both she and her husband pay $1,500 a month for health insurance, their deductible is sky high and certain conditions they have are excluded.
It was abysmal..and yet because of their right wing beliefs they were defending this.
There are a lot of people out there who think the same way, including these politicians. I mean, they are broke because of health insurance and health conditions and yet this is ok with them. I can't figure this kind of thought process out.
I guess these are the same types of people who will vote against their own interests because of their warped ideologies.
I feel that Obama is going to have to push this through without the support he wants, and should have.
All politics aside, that opening skit was godawfully unfunny. And no, that's not a Obama supporter speaking, but a person who likes comedy. Seriously, put your politics aside and tell me that this opening sketch was knee-slappingly funny. Wow, what a way to kick off a show. I watched it all the way through and quickly changes the channel. who's writing for this show nowadays anyway?
I don't know...I don't think the skit was that bad (I think it has value in the fact that it echos what a LOT of people are thinking now) but I do agree with you about the writers. I never watch SNL anymore. It's horrible.
That Kristin Wiig is so overrated. The only thing that's halfway bearable is Weekend Update. I emphasize 'halfway'.
I thought it was fairly humorous. I wouldn't say it was outrageously hilarious, but I laughed. I think it had the advantage of being both understated--which is how I like my comedy--and true.
I guess funny is subjective. I could understand some people laughing at it, but for me, it was just flat. Fred Armesen (sp?) used to at least TRY to imitate Obama, trying to match his speech and cadence, but that thing? It was just him reading cue cards. The characterization from the SNL cast of famous people was half the joke. Even Chevy Chase's non-imitation imitation of Ford was funnier than this. and that joke about cash for clunkers stimulating the economy of Japan...i heard that about five times on television before I heard it here. Sorry, to me this was pretty lame, especialy to lead off a show.
unfunny and looonnnggg. Are they hiring real writers? This is high school level stuff. Maybe they ought to ply the staff with coke and booze like the good old days. This impersonation has no character. The Nixon, Ford, Carter, (Phil Hartman's genius) Reagan, etc characters were funny. This guy ain't got it. Tame and lame. No buttcheeks.
I really like the way Arneson does Obama. I know a lot of people disagree, but I think he rates up there with the best of the presidential impersonations.
And he does so have the buttcheeks!
Really? You think he's doing a good job of impersonating Obama? He USED to when he at least attempted to match the speech and cadence, but now? Man, talk about phoning it in.
Well, I agree that this one was probably weak, but I really liked it I guess because it sent a good message. Obama needs to hear this...I think he's slipping into that category of people who are starting to believe the hype. But he has to start doing more than walking into a room and be charming. He needs to pick it up and start checking his To Do list off.
Remember the "Keep It Cool" skit Arnisen did? That one cracked me up. But like I said, it takes more than being cool to be a good president.
yes it does, and it takes more than brownface and a wig to make fun of said president. Its a wasted effort -- that "message" would have far more impact presented with some biting humor, clever wit, etc. This is lame no matter how its sliced.
He just doesn't have the voice for it. A good Obama impersonator simply must have a baritone or it doesn't work. I actually think Armisen's Paterson impression is fucking hilarious because it's so over the top (despite going to the "New Jersey" well way too often).
