We got word that Girl Talk is playing Congress Theater on New Year's Eve, and though it's not on the venue's website yet, the appearance has been confirmed by the Empty Bottle and tickets appear to be available already. We've seen Girl Talk in that room once before and that leads us to believe that this is gonna definitely be one of the spots people are going to want to be on December 31, 2009. If you're looking to have your mind blown with a few thousand "friends" squirming and smiling beside you, grab you tickets now.

Thanks to Katie for the tip!

Sounds so fun, but dang it if I just think it's too early to make plans of this magnitude.

Well, the Flaming Lips are already confirmed for OK so I can't think of much that would tempt me away from this as far as the unhinged dance parties go!

man, Flaming Lips on NYE was awesome. I suspect Girl Talk will be as well. Tickets already purchased.

Did Greg do a countdown during the 2007 show or did it end before the new year?

The Girl Talk @ Empty Bottle show on NYE '06 had the countdown when he got on stage, then his show started right after. He had sparklers on his laptop while it crowdsurfed around the room.

I also went to that show, one of the most fun NYE's I've ever experienced.

I can't decide if Girl Talk at Congress NYE sounds amazing, or just makes me nostalgic and sad...

Like I said, I saw the show there last year and it was enormous fun.

Granted, I was onstage shooting next to the guy for most of the evening so that may have influenced my view, but my girlfriend was out in the crowd and she said everyone had a blast out there too.

It may be a little early to make NYE plans, but I bought tickets anyways just in case. way less than most other places want to charge you for that night out.

Errr.. should say less than $100 is way> less than most other places want to charge you for that night out.

I guess I'm just trying to figure out the length of the show and if its going to last through midnight. The tix say 9:30pm but I'm unsure if that means doors or start of show.

The show will definitely last through midnight. There will be activities until the venue closes.

NYE is overrated. Girl Talk is a glorified iPod. And the Congress blows. I'll pass.

pretty much hit the nail on the head.

i guess if you want that guy sweating all over you...

Bwahahahahaha!

God, I love Monotonix.

I look forward to hearing the same pre-programmed mix he's been using for the past 4 years.

It's cool, Matty, jenniferexacto, ricky, and viachicago - I'm sure there are still plenty of tickets left for Big Head Todd and the Monsters at House of Blues.

Right because as a big head todd fan i would know that he's been using the same mix the last three time i've seen him.

I, for one, cannot wait for the hootie and the blowfish tour.

You know you've grown up when you don't argue coolness based on the bands/music you listen to.

In other news, early Iron Maiden rawks, and Metal Church is seriously underrated.

i have each of Girl Talks albums, and enjoy them for what they are. but live, you can put a monkey on on stage and do the same pre-programmed "art" Greg does.

Big Headed Todd? Dude, just because I think GT blows and I would rather not put up with thousands of drunken idiots and atrocious weather on amateur night dosent mean by default I would rather be at an even shittier concert under the same circumstances. I did catch the HUM reunion at Double Door last year, and frankly a show of that rarity is about the only reason i would go out on 12/31. So please spare me the holier than thou 'tude.

Forget it -- last time at the Congress it was so packed there was no room to dance. It was also $20 cheaper.

Also, Tankboy: "shooting" next to the guy? Uhh... don't know what to make of that. Maybe you meant "shitting," which would have been appropriate next to Gillis.

Shooting photos. Just to clarify.

If you actually listen to any of the live recordings of other shows like bonnaroo, yale, etc. you'll hear the mash is different for each...

I don't understand all the haters... people are interested in this show because its an awesome way to dance your way into the new year. Its suppose to be a party and Greg encourages that atmosphere. That's why people are going - for the NYE PARTY - not because they want serious music to critique... Lighten up! Its a NEW YEARS EVE PARTY!!!

Exactly. He has all the tracks in his computer, yes, but he drops them in manually. Obviously he goes into a show with the idea of what he's going to play -- his "setlist" as it were -- but the whole shebang still depends on him dropping the right layers in at the right time and working with the crowd's energy to adapt as he goes along.

Hey guys, I just signed up to take the time to say this sucks and I hate fun, and this is dumb and everything is dumb, and waa waa wahhh.

Girl Talk is fun. Dancing is fun. NYE is fun. If it's not your scene, fine. Go have fun doing something else. But stop your whining. Sheesh.

Love,
BlowJoy

If it's not Manheim Steamroller, I'm not bothering. All you morans who say otherwise have a earwax for brains.

augustkl - I too was at that show at Congress Theatre and I chose to get off the floor because it was so packed. I had to move because I wanted to see what was going on. More importantly I wanted to breathe.
For the NYE show even 100 less tix sold would make a world of difference.
