ABC Producing "Time Traveler's Wife" TV Pilot?

We were poking through this Chicago Magazine profile of Chicago author Audrey Niffenegger (who we also interviewed here) when this line caught our eye:

Now Niffenegger’s characters may be headed to the small screen: ABC has announced plans to produce a pilot based on the book that could lead to a weekly TV series.

After trying to wrap our brains around it, we double-checked, and it's true - and the creative force behind "Friends" is making it happen. All due respect to the network that brought us Wipeout this summer, but this sounds like an idea that's DOA. "Quantum Leap" meets "Once & Again" created by the team who brought us Monica and Chandler? No thanks.

If we're blue-skying about TV shows based around fiction set in Chicago, how about a half-hour sitcom based around "The Man With the Golden Arm?"
