Trafficpocalypse!

What's being referred to as a "pavement failure" on the Kennedy Expressway at Adams is responsible for a new edict from the Illinois Department of Transportation: stay away from downtown expressways for the next 24 hours. Per the Sun-Times:

One lane of the Kennedy was affected, but another was closed so repairs could be done.

Also, ramps from the westbound Eisenhower Expressway / Congress Parkway onto the northbound Kennedy are closed, and the ramp from the eastbound Eisenhower to the northbound Kennedy was being closed.

Time to test out those GPS units for rush hour!

Yikes! I normally take the CTA to work now, but each of the past two weeks I've had to go to the suburbs from downtown in the evening via car. Glad this week's trip was last night!

Pavement failure = Politically connected construction company used inferior materials & incompetent workers & state inspectors were bribed to overlook all of that!

From Chicago Breaking News:

"He connected to the Kennedy downtown and eventually was part of the traffic that squeezed by the construction site. After two hours in traffic, he said he managed to get both extremely dehydrated and in need of a bathroom. He took care of both needs at a gas station at the Des Plaines Oasis, where he spoke before continuing his journey north."

I can think of one solution to his problem: There once was a man from Nantucket...
