It's been over two years since Lincoln Square's Delicatessen Meyer closed its doors and the building purchased by the Luszcz family of Gene's Sausage Shop fame. Chicago real Estate Daily reports that the Luszczes are finally ready to re-open Meyer as "Gene's Sausage Shop at Delicatessen Meyer" on November 7 (insert your "Jim's Mario's Restaurant" reference here).

The 7,000 square-foot space will carry over 40 varieties of sausage, ham and deli meats, prepared foods such as cabbage rolls, and wine, beer and liquor. Among the plans the Luszczes have for the new shop is rooftop seating come springtime.

I wouldn't go there. I hear it will be a real sausage fest.

Nice TAXI reference. Great episode.

Though I'm loyal to the Paulina Meat Market, I've been anxiously awaiting the opening of this place for months. I wonder how they'll stack up to each other?

Hopefully the sausage shop won't be as expensive. I love Paulina's selection and cuts, but damned if I'm paying $5/lb. for pork butt.

Amen to that. I feel like part of that high price is almost the service/experience aspect of Paulina. Love the place, but the price only makes it worth it for certain occasions.

However, the service at Paulina compared to Lincoln Quality Meats makes it almost worth it most of the time.

There's another decent (though, it seems much smaller) meat shop just south of this place, so the competition will be interesting.

That'd be the Lincoln Quality Meat Market. Their truck says "Nobody beats our meat!"
