Having already given way to fellow Republican Rep. Mark Kirk in the race for U.S. Senate, Andrew McKenna has set his sights on Springfield, officially launching his bid for Governor in 2010. McKenna made the announcement this morning in Chicago and is already coming out swinging with this campaign video, titled "Hair Today."
McKenna joins a crowded field for the Governor's seat but is considered a front-runner to earn the Republican nomination.

McKenna seems like a decent guy but I am not sure he has the charisma needed to knock Quinn out of office.
In fact, McKenna's upper lip doesn't move when he talks. It's almost like watching a ventriloquist.
That may be irrelevant to one's governing ability, but it seems relevant to one's electability.
As a Republican, I am holding judgement on which Republican nominee to support until I see more of the other contenders.
It seems Kirk has a much better shot at winning the US Senate seat than McKenna taking the Gov seat, no?
Yes, you may be right about that. But Kirk has to get the Republican base excited, and things like his recent vote for the cap and trade bill (i.e., "cap and tax") make him less than an ideal Republican candidate.
That ad sucks. What does a former governor being corrupt have to do with the current one? I am really sick of shit like that and I wouldn't vote for him now if he was the only one running....
And on the subject of him running, he sort of runs like a girl.
Jim McKenna. His hair is thinner, whiter. Not thick and dark. Its hair you can trust. Real middle age white man hair, not strange, out of control immigrant hair.
Jim McKenna has run a business, has thin white hair and his running mate is 6'3". He knows that the unemployed need jobs. He will never have thick dark hair. You can count on it.
He's running for governor of Illinois but he also walks through downtown Chicago. People say good things about him when asked to. A farmer seems to like him, well, at least a man in overalls in a field. 3 non-white children may have been helped indirectly to go to school or plant a garden. His wife of many years is a teacher. Thats good.
Jim McKenna. His name sounds right. Vote for him. Come on.
