Most folks are familiar with The Meat Puppets' hit "Backwater," but those in the know are more familiar with the band's more out-there sonic explorations across sun-bleached desserts and murky swamp haze.

The group splintered in the early '90s after Cris Kirkwood left the band due to drug problems, leaving his brother Kurt Kirkwood to soldier on with various other players under the Meat Puppets name. The group released a number of serviceable albums over the next couple of years, but none recaptured the dynamic fury of earlier discs. By 2006 Curt had conquered his personal issues and rejoined his brother for a series of triumphant reunion shows along with an album that heralded a return to the band's classic form. We've caught the band a few times since then and never walk away unimpressed.

Meat Puppets return to Schubas later this week for a three night stand at the venue, abnd we have two three-day passes to the show and a signed copy of their latest album for one lucky Chicagoist winner! Enter after the jump by tomorrow, November 10, at 5 p.m. CST for your chance to win.

Meat Puppets play November 12 at 9 p.m., and November 13 and 14 at 10 p.m., at Schubas, 3159 N Southport, $16, 21+

This comment has nothing to do with meat puppets.

More, I'm curious as to why there was very briefly an article I couldn't open posted here on the ol' Chicagoist presumably about the Department of Justice monitoring comment boards which now has disappeared. You've got my inner conspiracy theorist going crazy.

Looks like that's going up at 2:40.

Ah ... I was briefly afraid they'd gotten to you.

If you guys want to delete this thread in favor of stuff related to the post, I'm game.
