Former President George W. Bush will be entering rare personal territory when he visits later this month for a fundraiser. It'll be one of the few speaking engagements for the ex-prez since he left office in January. (In America, anyway; the former president recently made a few speeches and diplomatic appearances in Asia.) So why is W coming to the city of his successor? He'll be speaking at a private function of the Turnaround Management Association, filling in for former GE CEO Jack Welch who had to back out due to illness. The November 19 appearance is closed to the public and media, but reservations jumped by 50 percent when the announcement was made.

Meanwhile, another public appearance for Pres. Bush, a "discussion" with former President Bill Clinton, was announced but then almost immediately canceled due to a hyperactive press release that billed the event as a "debate."

Come on, Chicago people, give him the same kind of welcome that he got in Ottawa and Montreal! He more than deserves it.

So, my first thought was, "what bunch of morons would want to listen to this guy talk?" But then I thought about it: this (I infer from the name) is a group of people who come into imploded organizations and "turn" them around. This makes total sense - in order to repair organizations, it's useful to understand the psychology of the executives to f'ed them up in the first place. I can't think of an executive who has damaged an organization as large as the US Federal government as badly as G-Dub.

First, Mr. Bush said, “I’ll give some speeches, just to replenish the ol’ coffers.” With assets that have been estimated as high as nearly $21 million, Mr. Bush added, “I don’t know what my dad gets — it’s more than 50-75” thousand dollars a speech, and “Clinton’s making a lot of money.”

Well, he has a right to earn a living. I think paying him 25 bucks a head for every person killed in Katrina would be good (1900 x25=$47, 500). Though 25 bucks a head for every life lost on 9/11 would be quite profitable (2995x25=74,875)

But the way to really fill up those old coffers, and crack six figures, is to base his rate off the Iraq war casualties (4351 x25=$108,755)

And hey, every day that number is only gonna grow!
