Weekend Dance Party: Congorock Hits Smart Bar

2010_02_12_congorock.jpg This weekend our dance party of choice is jungle-house madman Congorock. His name is so meta it's almost paradoxical; his music, quite literally, sounds like rock from the Congo. Tonight Congorock stops in Chicago as a part of his More Fire Tour, bringing his funky jams to Smart Bar alongside Willy Joy and Charlie Glitch. It's gonna get messy, people.

Congorock is Italian-bred and currently resides on A-Trak's ever-growing Fool's Gold label. He's worked with some heavy-hitters in the scene including The Bloody Beetroots and Blatta & Inesha and we can see that he's drawn some influences from the two. While it may be easy to write off his sound as some aforementioned buzzword, Congorock invades dance floors with absolutely grimy hoover synth and pounding bass kicks enough to convert the most rigid of non-dance fans. What's more is that he plans to drop some unreleased stuff that we can't wait to hear.

Congorock will be joined by local DJs Willy Joy and Charlie Glitch, big players in our intensifying local scene. The beats will ride for a long time tonight, so strap on those Reeboks before you head out.

Congorock is tonight, Smart Bar, 3730 N Clark St, $10 ($12 after midnight), 21+
