Weekend Jams: Zettler, Veirs, And Rego
Snow be damned, there are plenty of reasons to leave the house this weekend including lots of music. Here are three such examples featuring a lot of talented and lovely ladies.
Vintage Gramma Record Release Party with Lauren Zettler and Allison Weiss
The comedic-folk trio Vintage Gramma tickles our funny bone while also laying down some sweet tunes and now they've got a new CD to share with us. And the band knows how to throw a party: besides their performance, they've invited the likes of Athens, Georgia's Allison Weiss and one of our current favorites, NYC's Lauren Zettler, who we've encouraged you to see before (and who's awesome Go West cover we shared last weekend). There'll be even more entertainment but these three acts alone will be worth the trip.

Laura Veirs
It's cold and snowy outside. That's no surprise. It is, after all, February in Chicago. But singer-songwriter Laura Veirs is back with July Flame, a new record with a decidedly summer feel. The last time we saw Veirs she was playing solo but this time around she's backed by a full band, The Hall of Flames. Besides the lead single of the same name, the LP features plenty of warm, sunny tunes like "Silo Song" and the horn-backed "Summer is the Champion." Old Believers and Cataldo open.

NY Songrwriters Circle - Chicago Showcase
Okay, it's not on the weekend, but it's a good way to ease yourself into the next workweek. We've written about the New York Songwriters Circle before and now they've got another Chicago Showcase featuring some great local talent. Some of the singers featured this time around include Leslie Beukelman, Ryan Suzuka, and our pal Rebecca Rego (of local band REGO).
