Obama Tweaks Cubs. Again.
Yesterday, President Obama continued a long-standing tradition of hosting champion sports teams when he welcomed the 2009 World Series Champion New York Yankees (that was perhaps the most painful thing I'll type all week). Ever the Chicago-style President, Obama mentioned his favorite team, the White Sox, but saved his most pointed barb for that other Chicago baseball team, the one with over a century of championship-less seasons. Addressing the Yankees, Obama said, "It's been nine years since your last title -- which must have felt like eternity for Yankee fans. I think other teams would be just fine with a spell like that. The Cubs, for example." Ouch.
It's certainly not the first time the Sox-fan-in-Chief has gone after the Cubs and we're guessing it won't be the last. We're guessing the diss was retaliation for the admission of Obama to the Verban Memorial Society, a DC-based, politically-connected Cubs fan group, without the President's knowledge.
