Yesterday's early morning shooting on the Stevenson that left one man dead and another injured stemmed from a fight at a River North bar, according to police. Alexander Lopez, the man killed in the shooting, was at Spy Bar late Monday night with friends when a fight allegedly broke out and Lopez and his friends became involved. His nephew, Matthew Lopez, told ABC 7, "Some guy was beating up his girlfriend and one of my uncle's friends had noticed that and had went to go and help out that girl and I guess that is when the fight started."

Police responded to the bar fight but it seems the fight carried on elsewhere, spilling over to a chase down the interstate where Lopez, a passenger in the car, was struck and killed while the driver was shot three times; the driver was able to pull over without crashing and was last reported in critical condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital. Police are now reviewing surveillance footage from the club and surrounding areas, including the Ontario on-ramp, to see if it offers any clues.
