First Thursday’s at Beauty Bar have introduced our latest favorite retro dance night, Shing-a-Ling, featuring Chicago’s DJ Fabulette, a.k.a. Emilie Jaeger.

Jaeger, an avid collector of lesser known ‘60s girl group vinyl, has brought her booty-shaking tunes and knowledge of this genre to other such venues as The Burlington and Late Bar.

A few years ago Jaeger began collecting ‘60s female vocal based pop 45s featuring everything from Motown hits to relatively lesser known British chanteuses. She then decided to bring her love of this niche music to the dance floor. Of course a natural choice for a DJ residency was the ‘60s-inspired, salon themed West Town haunt, Beauty Bar.

Jaeger says you can expect to hear such sub-genres as “early '60s teen stars, up-tempo northern soul, Motown faves, classic Brill Building girl groups and psychedelic songstresses.”

This Thursday features the resident DJ Fabulette as well as guest DJ James Porter of the Hideout’s much loved monthly soul-steeped dance night, East of Edens Soul Express.
With a combination like that, we know we’ll be shaking it till the wee hours on a school night.

Shing-a-Ling with DJ Fabulette and guest James Porter is Thursday, May 6, at Beauty Bar, 9 p.m., FREE, 21+
