Amtrak Celebrates National Train Day at Union Station

By Lindsey Miller in News on May 6, 2010 7:00PM

In honor of National Train Day on Saturday, we have decided to momentarily set aside any frustrations we may have with Chicago-area trains and remember why the rails are such an enduring and ideal form of transportation. Vice President Joe Biden loves trains - why shouldn't we?

Amtrak has planned a full day of events for train enthusiasts of all ages at Union Station from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Highlights include model trains, activities for kids, music, train equipment tours , and exhibits on how trains helped Blues develop and spread (The Blues Journey and Connection to the Railroad Exhibit), train dining with a cooking demonstration by Chef Gerard Bertholon, and the green benefits of rail travel.

The full schedule and map is available online. In the meantime, let's appreciate Chicago-area Amtrak, Metra, and CTA as beautiful and stately photo subjects.
