Daley Likes Weis' Pay Cut Proposal

A few days ago, Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis, whose three-year contract expires next spring, said he was open to the idea of a cut in pay if it meant re-upping his contract with the city (Weis currently makes $300,000). And Mayor Daley likes the sound of that. Said the Mayor, "I think it's important that everybody sacrifice for the people of our city, our state and our nation. You have to. If you don't, then... people then live in a different world; they and don't realize that people are suffering. And people are suffering." As for whether or not Mayor Daley will look to re-up with the embattled Weis, he told WLS 890's Bill Cameron a few weeks ago:
He's very hard-working, honest and decent. And he's out there. He's one of the few superintendents who's out there as superintendent. Not many of my superintendents ever went out in the field ... we'll see, we'll work with him, but I'm just saying this has nothing to do with (a) three-year contract. This has to do with people's responsibility.
Weis and Daley have had a stormy relationship since, dating back to 2008, the year Weis started and Chicago's deadliest year since 2003. Wies also faced a no-confidence vote from the police union last year, dealt with the teen cop impersonator fiasco, the high profile Derrion Albert beating death last year, a spike in CPS students killed, and already an increase in murders this year over last year's rate.
