Beckham Goes For A Change Of Tune

2009_07_beckham_midseason.jpg Mired in a deep slump (he currently spots a .187 batting average) White Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham has taken drastic measures to try and right his swing. The second-year player changed up his at-bat music. He's made the walk to home plate to the Outfield's "Your Love" since his days at the University of Georgia, a song that's a curious selection compared to the usual heavy metal or hip-hop tracks most players choose. But in some ways, Gordon's pop selection started the trend of players picking lighter tunes.

Trend setter or not, Paul Konerko insisted that a new tune be played in order to try to break Beckham of his slump, so now he'll be greeted with "Seek and Destroy" by Metallica instead. If Beckham has an indie rock sense of humor, maybe he'll switch to something by The Mendoza Line once he turns things around.
