DOWNLOAD THEN SEE: Bad Veins

2010_06_BAD_VEINS.jpg We can't believe we're recommending you go see a show headlined by Thrice, but here we are, recommending you go see a show headlined by Thrice. Don't worry, unless you're feeling particularly masochistic you'll never have to hear note one from Thrice because the reason we think you should go is to see the openers for Saturday's show, Bad Veins.

We caught this duo and their tape machine at Empty Bottle a few months ago and walked out of that show as true fans of the band. Benjamin Davis holds down vocals, keys and guitar, Sebastien Schultz thrashes his drum set until it actually starts to sweat and Irene, their 1973 Pioneer reel to reel tape player, fills in the gaps. There's a bit of orch-pop in there, a little dance -rock and a whole lotta heart. It's been too long since the group was back in Chicago -- they're based in Cincinnati and gas is pretty expensive to just hop over here for a show every other month to keep us satisfied -- and while these aren't the best circumstances under which to see Bad Veins, we'll take what we can get.

It's also been too long since they dropped their self-titled debut so we're happy to hear they're releasing a new EP, Outliers, next week on June 15. Maybe they'll have a few at the show?
