The Morning After

Sox Shut Down Tigers
John Danks had a sterling effort to help lead the Sox past the Tigers 3-0 yesterday afternoon. Danks allowed just one hit and struck out four (though he did walk four) in seven shutout innings, earning his fifth win of the season. Omar Vizquel had two RBI, including a solo homer in the first and A.J. Pierzynski had a homer in the eighth to bookend the game for the Sox. More importantly, rookie Sergio Santos got himself out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the eighth, striking out Miguel Cabrera to escape the jam. Said Ozzie, "A lot of people think because he's got good stuff, push him to the top. We tried a couple times and he got anxious. But he threw a pitch like he was a veteran and I think A.J. did a tremendous job."

Cubs Lose Another Walk-Off Game
The Cubs got in their own way yesterday, committing three big errors including one that cost them the game, losing to the Brewers 5-4 in 10 innings. Xavier Nady had three RBI in a good day at the plate but it would ultimately be his throwing error in the bottom of the tenth that would cost the Cubs the game, allowing the Brewers to score a runner from first. Nady said, "I just tried to make a perfect throw and it sailed on me."

The two teams now gather at Wrigley Field this afternoon at 1:20 p.m. (WGN/CSN) for the first of the two Crosstown series. Benjy's up next with a series preview.
